leaning anything.

People are totally delusional if they believe anything else.

What is next, is going to be uglier than anything we have seen in years if we don't stop kneecapping our own.

Don't get me wrong.. I have my differences with the President.. but I am not going to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I am not that pure in my philosophies..

We look to be going backwards.. and need to start applying some brakes pretty quickly as a unified front.

EDIT to ADD.. we are going to lose equal marriage rights in this state if the left and Democrats keep splintering.. We are going to get bombarded, and while Iowa is just a little state, I know that.. we have made some huge leaps forward in Civil Rights for all.. and we could lose all the ground we have taken. I am just listening to the ground chatter here.. Of course I am on the western side of the state and that is by far the uber conservative part..but there is some really ugly movement going on here..

1. I hear you
I'm really sick of them acting like that does not matter.

You get these snotty denials that they should vote for the lesser of two evils - well, they are idiots then. They should vote for the lesser of two evils - that's just how life is. When you are a tiny minority at the extreme you can't afford it. They are a tiny minority.

2. I don't understand that thinking. That has NEVER been the case.
When Carter lost, Reagan won. When Johnson dropped out and Humphrey came in and lost, we got Nixon. When people decided Al Gore was too centrist, we got Bush. Looking at these trends, why in the world would someone think letting the RW win would result in the country moving left??

What really is funny is that Carter was thought of as too centrist, like Al Gore. And now, I regularly see people wish for the days of Carter and Al Gore.

3. Carter and Gore ...

I keep saying the same thing, and I mean it every time I say it: I just sit here in awe sometimes at what I'm reading, always thinking I've read it all before and always being surprised to find yet a new level of self-delusion.

I'm probably thinking of a thread you're referring to from, I think, yesterday that lauded Jimmy Carter. Now, I loved Carter. I was a kid at the time, but Grandma liked him, and I liked what Grandma liked. But that man was not in any sense of the word a liberal when he was President. I remember the Carter-Kennedy wars of words. That was liberal against conservative, and now Carter is the left's champion?

And Gore ... Now, I liked Gore. I didn't like him as well as some others around at the time, but he grew on me. Still, I remember the reasons he wasn't my favorite, and the name Tipper Gore and her "protect the children" crusade was a part of it. Even forgetting that, I still am so tempted to say, every time he's mentioned as some sort of lost savior: "Al Gore was DLC."

But I don't want to be a part of the perpetuation of the DLC meme, so I avoid it for the most part.

4. Well, there was a thread earlier last week about Carter, but he keeps coming up
Usually, there will be a few posts along the lines of "He was too beautiful for this world" etc. But I have no doubt that if DU existed during the 70s, they would have been calling for his head. And some of the same people who loathe Obama for being too DLC support Gore. It's as though people don't even know what they're saying. Just now, someone said McCain would have been better than Obama RE: corporations. Really? I mean...REALLY? That is so far out there I don't even know what to say.

But I guess you can't let it get to you.

8. The "DLC" talking point is the most laughable boogeyman
in the Eeyores' arsenal.

The DLC barely even exists anymore. No one except HuffPo and this place even mentions them anymore, and even HuffPo doesn't wave them around as a catchall conspiracy theory.

Yet here, they are the Illuminati of the left wing--infiltrating every corner of the Democratic Party and using their insidious influence to push the party to the right.

If the DLC was truly as powerful as the Eeyore Club thinks, they'd be a lot more prominent in the media, they'd be a lot better funded, and they'd have a lot more members.

5. Of course. I keep hearing, "well we'll show 'em! They'll be forced to move to the left!"
Like the party did, at a national level, in 1972 with McGovern. How'd that work out for the Democratic Party?

9. Because people think the country is more like them than it really is.
Or, worse, they look at how left other countries are and think we should just follow suit naturally, which is entirely detached from history and reality.

10. K&R. Excellent points.
People sometimes get the government they deserve, and almost NEVER the one they want.
