Clyburn may have the speaking style of molasses poured through a strainer, BUT, I find that what he says is usually succinct and impactful. The press conference also features a young woman who speaks very energetically about exactly how she has been helped by the passage of HCR, and another young woman who speaks about what a powerful difference the increase to Pell Grants have made in her life. Of course, the first question from the press out of the gate was what did Clyburn think of Pres. Obama's remarks regarding the Cordoba House being built near Ground Zero. I thought Clyburn gave an excellent answer - that the President's comments were appropriate, as they emphasized religious freedom. Clyburn also added that his own religion was not widely accepted when he was growing up, so he knows a thing or two about religious intolerance.
