People should not take the lack of support for this president on DU as any indicator of anything.
The president's strongest support is (not coincidentally) from the staunchest corners of the Democratic Party's base -- minorities, blue collar workers, women, and the college educated.
The lack of support on DU can be attributed to small numbers amongst members of each of these groups, not to mention the Dem Party as a whole judging by the number of people here openly plotting its destruction. It tickles me to no end to read people say that the voice of the president's supporters are being "drowned out" here as if the veritable army of zombies and sockpuppets that roam this place could do that. Go to any web site/neighborhood/organization with genuine diversity and you'll get a completely different perspective than the one you get here.
Sure, alot of the president's supporters have left DU but they've gone on to form and participate in some truly wonderful outside web sites. So this idea from the president's incessant detractors that we are being "drowned out" is untrue. We're still here and our numbers in "the real world" far outnumber theirs -- one of the reasons I've become so fond lately of using that classic Homer Simpson quote, "let the baby have its bottle." If the haters think they own DU now, it's no skin off my ass for them to think that. I'm all too happy to let them have their "bottle" realizing that this is just about the only place in the world where they feel powerful or in the majority.
