I am so damn sick of all the doubters at DU!
Did DU become Freep central?? More than half the posts on the Greatest page are criticizing Obama, not McCain.

Throughout the primaries, I was tough. I hung in there, and didn't leave because I thought we'd come together eventually. Now it's like the primaries all over again. I don't think I can take it anymore. DU has become better than the MSM at beating up our candidate.

1. I hear you.
That's why it's good to take a break from this place and go back to the real world where none of this even matters to most people.

2. I've been keeping my distance from DU lately.
Way too much negativity.

I check in a couple of times a day to catch the latest, but I don't stick around very long.

4. I think a lot of people who say a lot of bad things about Obama and his supporters have been...
overindulged.

5. I don't remember anything like this happening in 2004
 I don't get it. We have the best opportunity to take over the Presidency, Senate and House of Rep. this year. We should be thinking of positive ways to help that effort and get out there and do it.

7. I'm old and losing my memory I guess
:-( but I don't remember things being so volatile.... (I'm a Kucinich supporter - we're used to disappointment).

8. They were less volatile. There was a different set of much stricter rules.
As a result people took their bashing elsewhere if they had to, or they were careful to actually be constructive in their criticisms,

10. Thanks for the encouragement.
It just become such a cesspool since Obama wrapped up the nomination. I can't help thinking that a solid 30% of the members truly want him to fail... or maybe an extremely vocal 20%.

I still feel like I want to lurk there because there STILL are some great posts by sane DUers, but it is just so hard to keep from getting sucked into the abyss by the asshats of the forum. So I guess I will still peruse GD P but will try to resist the urge to post, since no logic can derail a determined fucktard.

I am a new Firefox user. I have just added "asshat" and "fucktard" to my dictionary so I don't have to look at the red line everytime I use the terms... which I fear will be far too often.

11. I couldn't agree with you more!
Quite frankly, I joined DU to find like minded folk who were committed to electing a Democrat to the White House. I understood the passions that fueled the arguments during the primary, but it's astonishing to see the venom posted here against our own nominee. I can't believe the mods allow this to continue! (I'm was a mod on a huge, wild, fringe forum, and the rules are enforced with an iron hand. Here, not much. Very disappointing.)

We should be supporting our guy, and thrashing McIdiot.

12. agree completely
i, too, wanted to find like-minded folks. lately, i am really disappointed with this site. mostly crap on the main page - complain, complain, complain - but with no real suggestions or solutions. i think they just like the attention.

13. In my view, the doubters & the complainers
(those who are honest and not just into making trouble or eager for attention) have not really understood what Obama is all about, IMHO at least. What is truly special about him I think is that not only is he able to think outside the box, but he is outside the box himself, in the sense that he does not neatly fit any pre-existing political category or classification. And that's what creates the potential for a truly new and transformational kind of politics which I find incredibly exciting. I may be wrong, but I don't think he is veering to the right as a political decision, GE an all that. I think that, as the smart and pragmatic politician that he is, he did what he had to do to win the primary while, to the extent possible, staying true to himself. And now he is bringing to the fore aspects of his political vision that he partially kept under wrap earlier. He kept warning that there will be times when his decisions may not be popular, that there will be disagreements. He kept saying that he wants to bring as many people as possible into the fold, not only democrats, but independents and republicans as well, basically saying that trditional classification, political or any other, should not matter. Those who are/act surprised now have either not paid attention or did not understand the implications. His rhetoric is not just words.

14. all good points
i don't think he has gone center or right or whatever it is that is pissing people off. i believe he is being true to his convictions, whether i like them or not. nothing he has done has surprised me or disappointed me. i knew all along that his positions were such that defining him as a certain type of democrat just wasn't fitting. and that is one of the reasons i really like him - i think people are a little more complicated and hard to dwindle down into a label.

15. I agree in a sense
Although he didn't keep his religion under wraps and I always understood his plan to advocate religion from the LEFT, which is what DU has been screaming about for years. He's still doing exactly what people said they wanted, they just don't recognize it when they see it. Most of them because they don't want to. There's a difference between pandering to the fundies, and challenging the fundies to change. He's challenging everybody to put aside their ideology and THINK, for a change. That's how we'll come up with solutions that work.

18. I believe that some of this is because the Primaries were so ugly (here)
I'm afraid that moderators may have to try and do something about it.

Until them I may just end up saying in General Discussion and Obama Group and avoiding GD:P altogether
