It feels just like its the Primaries again, and yet, we have 3 years to go!
And in some ways it is worse, because there is only our President to attack now, and DUers are attacking him for every single thing he does or doesn't do.

I have read many posts in various forums that tell me clearly that many DUers are now currently
working against our President, not simply some of the policies that they don't agree with.

When you've got some (Previous) Clinton supporter tearing apart an accomplishment list put together by a professor dealing with this President's first 10 months in office, you know folks want to lose the next elections badly just to "SHOW US" that they were right all along (in that we should have picked someone else).

This is a dangerous environmnent for the future of this country and for the attempt to make as much progress as we can to reverse as much of the Bush years as possible. It is also a boon for the Republicans, as they now know where to get their talking points; just troll the internet, especially some Democratic Board.

Indeed, there are many Liebermans here, who seek to do damage to this Presidency, and they, like Lieberman, can easily justify it as a difference of "Opinion" on policy.....but it is more than that.

When people start to care less about the future of this nation, and more about making points to undermine this President, we know they weren't really ever supporters of anything more than a personality (just not Obama), although they are the ones who preach that this is what we, those who support this President are all about. Most probably voted for this President, simply because they did what they had to do, and now since they didn't get what they ordered (and they knew they weren't going to get a lot of it, which is why they originally supported someone else), they are working to try and get rid of him. Of course, they were never interested in being "Patient" or accepting that everything takes time and that there is a political landscape filled with landmines to consider, because they aren't and weren't ever willing to give him any benefit of the doubt, and every excuse that they have been able to find to go against him just a bit more, they have used.

I understood that the primaries were very passionate...hell, I was very intense as well, but Barack Obama won the primaries, won the general election and is now our President. Due to this, folks don't have to always agree with him, but they should respect him, because he hasn't done anything that would make him earn the ire that he is being showered with. In fact, folks are downright disrespectful and denigrating!

And more than anything, these folks want to be proven be proven right so badly, because that is what is most important in their book; fuck everything else.

In otherwords, they weren't ever really ready for change, which is why they can't see the change
that has occurred. Many have intellectually checked out and are currently operating in autopilot mode dating back to the Bush administration without the Bush. It clearly appears that they never.got.over.it.

What is ironic is they don't understand that since they haven't bothered to change their own self,
how can they think this President can affect change for them in a nation filled with deliberate cynics not willing to lift a finger since the election unless it is to go against this President?

As for us, I fear we need to concentrate on the Republicans....as it appears that DUers really just won't. They are too busy tearing apart this administration instead, and only feign slight interest at fighting those who will screw them over in real time soon enough, if these folks I am speaking of get their wish.

1. It feels worse to me. And you're right, we need to concentrate on the pukes.
I don't give a rat's ass about the negative nellies on DU as long as they stay out of THIS group. And today, they didn't even do that.

So, I'm gonna start trying to figure out where my donations can do the most good in the 2010 elections. And I need to figure out what my donation budget will be. If anybody has some ideas about places we can make gains, let me know.

2. As of the new year, we need to make lists of Democrats that need to be supported
or else they will lose their seats,

as well, we need to concentrate on the media and taking them to task,
when they get crazy.

The folks here who are working against this President,
I'm not sure what we can do,
but because Barack Obama will do the right thing in the long run,
I think that will take care of most of them.....
and if they indeed hate this President, then there is nothing we can do for them,
because hate is not anything that can be taken away based on a policy pronouncement.....
Cause it's too deep.

so it's up to us.

8. Actually, a lot of people did.....the serious ones, who want whats
best for this country and are not hung up on "personalities".
In fact, many are here, among us, supporting this President at this time.

It is those who never got over it, precisely because for them personality had everything to do with it, that continue to fight as though Super Tuesday is tomorrow.

Some know this in their heart,
while others don't even care to think enough to know.

17. Last year's primaries were my "first" as a DU member ...
... and I've never had that much fun on the intertoobs!

It got down and dirty, sure - and the line was often lost completely between political debate and personal vitriol.

Yes, some people walked away angry - some made enemies that hate them to this day.

But we all knew we were eventually going to end on the same page, on the same side - some with reluctance, others with enthusiasm - and support our nominee to victory.

This is different. There is not going to be any reconciliation between the Obama supporters and the Obama haters.

If the admins don't step in soon and start enforcing their own rules again - well, this site will go on. But it will never be what it once was.

I will mourn that loss forever.

18. Aye.....but Nance, look at it. We do nothing considered close to activism....
we don't deal with the media, we don't dog out Republicans much (which is partially the reason that they get away with stuff--Cause the media only goes with loud internet stories), and we just argue among ourselves, and it isn' even done in an educated manner anymore, i.e., there is barely any real policy discussion with real facts anymore; just a bunch of folks bloviating by calling names, and literally acting like children. The auto-pilot Kool Kid SWAT Unrec'ing crew comes in and simply unrecs any thread remotely positive of Prs. Obama, and does the same to "special" posters they don't like.

This place used to be an exciting colorful Zoo-like place, but now it's like an elementary
school playground, that resemble Lord of the Flies, where the bullies have tied up all of the nerds in the utility closet.

Sucks.

They are gonna need to fix this shit soon.

20. Frenchie Cat you are amazing~ hit it out of the ball park again

I was sure where all the hate was coming from and didn't realize some may have supported Clinton.

They is too bad because unless I'm reading it wrong, HC has moved on to her new position and she seems at peace with what she is doing. In fact I thought she mentioned something about "retiring."

I supported Obama but I thought that DU was mature enough to mend those fences.

HC, unless I missed something, was/is? by no means a Progressive so they really do need to check themselves.

They are deeply bitter, that's for sure and for that the Republicans can jump for joy.

It is unfortunate but you wisdom and your words will get us through this - not just for Obama but for the Democratic Party.
Excellent Post Frenchie, excellent.

I appreciate your comments very much....

But I don't know if I can get us through this....
but I think that all together "Yes WE Can!"

But we are gonna need to start dealing with these fast approaching elections.
It's gonna go by fast, so we have to get organized and see what good we can do
to make sure that we get as much power behind Obama so he can get some more shit done!

I better go to bed now....cause it's getting mighty late over here on the West Coast.

Nite!

Edited on Tue Dec-29-09 08:32 AM by JohnnyLib2

I'm one former Clinton supporter who basically made the same decision and turn she did at ending her campaign; time to move ahead and support the Democratic nominee and president. There are clearly many others. Many of the more bitter Clinton supporters left DU.
I think it is an error to point the finger of blame at that or other "former" groups. President Obama expected to be controversial and seems to deal well with the noise coming his way. We will need to do the same....keeping one eye on the future.

JL2, leaving for work now.

25. Same for me.
I was an Obama supporter from the start, now I'm very happy with our Secretary of State. It was a sound decision on Obama's part, and she is doing a great job. Her fellow Senators said she was a real workhorse when she was in the Senate, and she brought that same work ethic, and skill to the State Department.

She and Bill, apart from any personal feelings of loss, and I'm sure they were very deeply felt, have done what they should do as Democrats. Rally around and support our Democratic President.

35. Some sites were listed on a thread by
FrenchieCat. I've decided on a different approach. I just want to know what's going on without the spin. I'm going to order "The Nation" in print. Aw, delivered to my mailbox. I'm not planning on letting the trolls run me away. However, I need a break and if I get the news delivered to my mailbox I won't be tempted to read the nasty comments. I can keep up with everything going on. Last but not least, I need to get a life and back away from my keyboard. This whole thing was consuming in 2008. Not on this site but a couple of others. Everyone goes to these sites between work, school and everything in between. It's not healthy, IMO.

That's my plan. :)

32. Losing Senate seats. Not a pleasant prospect, even at 3.
It would be nice to turn that to +9. That would make for better legislation. Ben & Joe carry far too much weight (morbidly obese). Far too much influence in proportion to their respective intellects.

34. From that perspective, yes. However, that is what usually happens historically in midterms
though if hiring starts to occur, and the economy improves, I suspect we will be gaining, not losing

In addition, it is a far cry from those saying we will lose the majority in Congress, that would be extremely unlikely, and that was the actual issue I was addressing
