What is the future of DU?

Poll question: What is the future of DU?

We have been all over the question of whether or not it's worth continuing to post here. How about the other side? Do you think "they" (whoever "they" are) want us? Certainly that will depend.

Perhaps we can revisit our speculation in the not too distant future and have a good laugh? Perhaps not?

I think parts of me, one in particular, is withering away as I type :-)

I think DU will be fine even though some of us may have to take a hiatus from here for a while.

3. I think DU will see the "writing on the wall"

I think DU will find way to get this under control such as locking threads sooner and banning really obnoxious instigators prior to the big push on the 2010 elections. It will be seen that the loud-mouths who are so virulently anti-Obama are on more of a seek and destroy mission than one of promoting a progressive or Democratic agenda and will have to get it under control or become a web site that is completely out of touch with the will of the majority of the population whether they be democrats or even republicans. DU will completely loose it's identity if this isn't done and I believe those who keep the site will see this and make necessary changes.

Kuchinich, though a man I agree with on many things, doesn't win anything more than a congressional seat in Ohio, nationally he has been made a joke, the people pounding the President on DU right now are jokes also. Republicans can do this because it appeals to their party over-all, for so-called liberals (really more like anarchists) to behave like Republicans makes them marginalized and the unwanted of either party. This can't be the identity DU is looking for.

It will be up to him to decide the nature of what DU is and who or what DU stands for. Based on his decisions I suspect that some people are going to be made to feel less than welcome.

5. I am not thrilled with this poll. It's framed as if the Obama haters are in control of DU.

And it's promoting divisiveness, just as they do.

After being here for a very long time and seeing a lot happen, things will work themselves out.

6. It's also worth nothing that it really is about a dozen or so posters who really stir the pot.

Not naming names but if you don't post and just observe GD and GDP, it becomes fairly clear there really aren't that many bomb-throwers and incessant instigators.

There may be more who chime in, but I'm totally fine with a lot of the criticism and gripes and occasionally agree with what people are saying.

Yep, that's usually where I am out, trying to have a little of that wisdom. Hard stuff. When to jump in and trow a fit right back at them and when to let it go and hope for a more obvious place to be of use.

But I need to get a better grasp of what our place is here and judging from others' concerns expressed very clearly I think they need a better grasp too.

My greatest frustration on the GD and GD:P is that I feel like I get shut down and stomped on when I ponder this question.

I'm not interested in promoting divisiveness but I'll say it clearly, I am even less interested in continuing here if the board is anti-Obama and/or anti-Democratic Party. Sorry, I do think we need to think about this and the people here are the ones whom I wish to ponder this with.

11. Since the majority of posts in GD are anti-Obama that must be how

the Admins and Mods want it. Therefore, I believe it will continue to be an anti-Obama site and an anti-Dem site. It's been this way for months. Why would they have a change of heart now?

The only question for me is how active this group will be and whether I will donate to DU in order to participate in it when my star expires.

instead of letting us just twist in the wind. I'm not nearly as interested in where they are on the subject as I am about why they don't tell us. Even a "we don't know yet" or "we don't want to take any position" would be helpful, IMHO.

IF the frequent anti-SUPPORTER attacks are not locked/deleted then perhaps that IS their way of telling us. Perhaps I'm just being dense in not taking the hint.

Note that this is NOT to complain about the WAY the board is moderated. It is about the KIND of board this is. If I went to Free Republic I would know what to expect as an Obama supporter and certainly could not complain. Because I KNOW what kind of board it is.

I am a plain old Democrat. I support the party. I support the President. I try to make good changes WITHIN the party. I will never be a member of the socialist party. I will never be an independent. I will never be anything other than a Democrat. That is heresy to some people here. They have a right to their opinion. But so do I. And if I'm not welcome as a party loyalist somebody needs to tell me that.

is all I know about DU - I have no idea what it was like in the "good old days".
