President Obama's candor Tuesday describing the mosaic of warnings about Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab that were mishandled by U.S. intelligence officials shouldn't be noteworthy; it should be routine. But let's be honest, it isn't, and Obama deserves credit for bringing what he called "human and systemic failures" out into the light shortly after he learned about them.

Smart and classy.

Asked about a double standard for Bush’s actions in 2001, a spokesman for Hoekstra, John Truscott, said Tuesday the congressman was really objecting more to the administration’s clamp-down on briefings to Congress than about Obama’s public silence.

It's a bitch to be a member of the minority party, aint' it?

“This hypocrisy demonstrates Republicans are playing politics with issues of national security and terrorism,” DNC spokesman Hari Sevugan said. “That they would use this incident as an opportunity to fan partisan flames … tells you all you need to know about how far the Republican Party has fallen and how out of step with the American people they have become.”

5. Good articles, dcsmart. Thanks for posting. And I have to say
that the continued hyprocracy of the repukes, especially that of Hoekstra, King, and Cheney, get me so angry I'd like to gob smack the lot of them!

I don't much trust Politico, but that article was a good one.

6. A big double standard for Obama?
It has taken them ten months to notice this? Most of us noticed it the first month.

This is nothing new really. It has always been this way for women and members of a minority. and the fact that Obama is a Democrat makes him an even bigger target. Perhaps some of the other news outlets will start to being truthful about what is going on.
