As the last of the 20,000 troops ordered to Iraq in President Bush’s "surge" arrived, May ended as the third deadliest month for troops stationed there. At least 123 American servicemembers died, including three more who the U.S. military today reported as killed. Also, 77 Iraqis were killed or found dead and 68 Iraqis were wounded during violent attacks.
An American soldier died on Tuesday of wounds received a day earlier in an IED attack northwest of the capital. Also, two dismounted soldiers were killed on Tuesday during an explosion in Falris. Also, a suicide bomber in Baghdad’s Adhamiya neighborhood wounded eight American soldiers and three Iraqi civilians, including a child.
A suicide bomber killed 25 people and wounded 30 more at a police recruitment center in Fallujah.
In Ramadi, a suicide truck bomber killed five people and wounded 15 more.
In Baghdad, 29 unidentified bodies were dumped throughout Baghdad. Gunmen attacked one of the dreaded police commando patrols, killing one commando and injuring three more in the Jihad district. In al-Khadra neighborhood, a roadside bomb wounded three policemen.
