Poppy breaks down slobbering again.
I'm looking for vid now.

There was a story on the ABC Evening News that showed the dedication of the new Billy Graham library in N. Carolina.
Jimma Carter, Bubba, and Poppy were all on hand to fete Jesus' Right Hand Pompadoured Man.

We were treated to about 7 seconds of video of Carter's and Clinton's speeches.

Then they showed GHB Bush start to speak and he just started blubbering uncontrolably.

Whatever meds he's on ain't working.

It must be tough, knowing that you were the most powerful man in the world at one point.
Now the inevitable gaping maw of the grave is approaching as the years go by and your legacy will be for one thing, and one thing only: The Worst President in the History of the United States was spawned from your loins.

Poor Poppy. His own mediocre reign will be soon forgotten, overshadowed by the swath of destruction in the wake of his idiot son's two terms.

Too empathetic.

Jesus messed with my head.

But give me two more years of this national horseshit and I'll hopefully have completely dispensed with such foolishness.

I got the Southern Baptist Chipset but it was installed too late in my development. It didn't take and it caused some conflict with my operating system. Eventually, I had it removed. Life is better without the IP conflicts.

105. too bad you didn't have a catholic upbringing
you had to put 1 token in the box to indicate that you wanted communion, the catholics had locked voting boxes before anybody,
and the concept that everybody had a choice was ingrained.

32. Sure he's old (same age as Carter, but gets less exercise), but there's a reason for his crying
It's been recorded that he took his loss in 1992 much worse than most rejected presidents (Nixon, Hoover, and Carter all got over it and quickly bounced back--Hoover and Carter did some of their best public service after being president). I read in a couple of places how he felt vindicated personally by his son's "election" in 2000 (sure, we know it's a mirage, but the man was grasping for straws). In fact, from his conflicts with Noriega and Saddam we saw a lot of Poppy Bush's tendency to personalize conflicts--the need to personally best each of his opponents--and the tendency to derive emotional satisfaction from these conflicts.

Now, I'll give Bush pere credit where it's due. He ran his wars excellently. He cultivated partnerships, he maintained ties, he built his case for war on popular opinion and didn't quit trying when support for the war reached 51%, and he didn't drive all the way to Baghdad when the experts said it would destablizet the region. True, he fucked the Kurds pretty bad in the process, but this paragraph is about what he did right.

The problem is that what he did right has been entirely unraveled by his offshoot. Bush pere made realistic decisions because, for all his psychological hang ups, he's a reasonable man with a good sense of the limitations of American power. He worked to earn his millions, so he has a realistic sense of what consequences are. What he spawned is a spoiled brat who never earned dick in his life (and yet somehow has Dick in his life), a half-formed man who has no understanding of consequences or limitations or responsibility.

Poppy Bush sought emotional vindication, and has invested a lot of his overly sentimental sense of self worth, in an incompetent dry drunk who may not even be dry anymore. Poppy is a smart enough man; he knows the damage his kid is doing to not only his legacy, but to the country and to the world as well. Yes, he's an old guy who's starting to go soft in public forums. But he's an old guy with a damn good reason to go all blubbery.

Hell, I'm not emotionally invested in Dubya at all and he sure makes me want to cry!

39. "He worked to earn his millions"?
Are you kidding?

His daddy, the ex-senator/war profiteer (you know, the one who traded with the Nazis?), was on the board of directors at Dresser/Brown Brothers Harriman and gave him his first job.

He's just as much of a rich spoiled brat POS as his son.

Bush senior turns 83 on June 12th and I think his handlers should start limiting his public speaking engagements.

Nothing is as pathetic as a senile, old man breaking down while talking in public.
When Reagan was that old they stopped letting him make public appearences.

57. Pathological crying....
I did some digging because something was nagging at me about this. It seems that so-called "pathological crying" (and/or laughing) are symptomatic of various Organic Brain Disorders i.e. stroke, tumors, various types of dementias.

For some reason, every article I accessed, you had to pay to read, so I couldn't get any detail.

All kidding aside, :silly: I think the old guy is suffering from some sort of physiological process.

64. It's a known symptom of strokes...
...but the way I heard it described was not "pathological crying" but rather, the inability to control one's emotional expressions. It can be quite revealing as to what a person's real feelings are. Therefore it would be interesting to track the specific events that have triggered GHWB's crying fits.

In any case, goodness knows he's got enough to cry about. As do the rest of us.

Divorced, Senile, fanatic, rag-tag losers. Rove is busy at the D.C. Movie Production Company developing campaign propaganda on everybody. Something for every occasion. Jeb will be featured as the only human being alive that can keep that war rolling and the Military Industrial Complex pulsating Trillions for Cheney. 102. The Bushes always seem to not fit in, don't they?
As the Brits would say "tainted too much with the common touch". It seems to me, a monied family like the Bushes. packing up and moving to Texas post their inability to carry on the Prescott legacy in Connecticut, just leads me to believe that George Sr. didn't see himself competing in a level playing field in Connecticut. Also, if you look at Sr's career, he wasn't home much, which left Barbara to raise the kids. In fact, Barbara Bush completely disconnected herself from her own family in Scarsdale, the Pierce's, once she became a Bush. Even her own mother wasn't at her wedding. I read Barbara's autobiography years ago, and came to the conclusion, that "BG" "before george" there wasn't much she wished to recall.

In fact, her commentary on her days in New Haven, while he attended Yale, really highlights how polarized and isolated this family truly is. I am not surprised at George Sr's blubbering at this memorial, nor am I surprised at Grahamn's comments concerning this library. This is clearly a case of Franklin Grahamn, acting as a CEO, capitalizing on the assets that name brings. If humility were the real driver behind Grahamn's life long work, then this library pretty much destroys any of that, right?

Seems to me, there is a level of sincerity in Grahamn's lifeworks; whether you agree with it or not, pretty much doesn't matter. But Bush's emotional outburst just points to one thing; fear, all men are mortal and must face a creator at some point. Those could have been tears of fear, more than heartfelt emotion for Grahamn; If I were George Senior, and allowed my eldest to grow up like a wild weed, moreover, make him responsible for healing a mother's heart after the burial of child, I'd cry too.

George W Bush is a victim of his environment; and unfortunate for the rest of the Bush clan, there doesn't seem be any epiphanies coming their way in the near term future.

114. It reminds me of Lady Macbeth when she wanders around in a nightmare
with memories of the nefarious deeds she instigated. "Out, out, foul spot" she cries about blood on her hands.

She had her husband kill King Duncan to then place himself on the thrown. Did Poppy play the same role as Lady Macbeth in the assasination attempt on Reagan? Is October Surprise and the string of murders of those who sought to expose it creeping into his feeble mind?

What a sensation a deathbed confession would be.
