ASHINGTON (Reuters) - Dan Bartlett, a key member of
President George W. Bush's inner circle and an aide for him going back more than 13 years, announced on Friday he is resigning as White House counselor effective July 4.

In an interview, Bartlett, who turned 36 on Friday, said he had been pondering his departure for months and decided now is the best time to get a less demanding job so he can concentrate on helping raise three children all under the age of 4.

1. Don't you wish everyone could just quit their job ...
"to spend more time with their family"?

2. Dan Bartlett slaps his forehead.
"Children! That's the ticket. I can say that I'm leaving to spend more time with my family." because up until now the thought of spending more time with three children under the age of 4 was a bit scary.

It's such an obvious and overused code phrase. Who do they think they're kidding?

3. Something's up
It's Friday.

What's today's news dump, hm? I read yesterday that the Department of Justice is expanding the investigation into the US Attorney firings, for instance, and the Office of Professional Responsibility is now involved as well.

5. Yeah, he's hoping his departure will be adequate
to stop the investigation into his own shenanigans.

I doubt compassion had anything to do with quitting to help his wife cope with three kids in diapers.

The real tragedy is if it does get him off the hook, it'll be like the Nixon gang all over again. He'll be back in a future GOP White House, older and readier to give them lessons in the fascism he learned in this one.

7. Good reason to have a family - great "crutch' when you need one.
