The American People learned not to trust the Executive Branch

Congress learned not to trust the Executive Branch (Most of the time)

People like Cheney and Rumsfeld (Who are both connected to the current Administration and were responsible for the clean up of the White House after Watergate) learned that you got to work harder if you truly want to have a good cover up

And we keep these criminals in power, why?

4. The Repiglicans Learned That They Needed to Control the Media

If we had the MSM then that we have now, Watergate would have been a non-event. Nixon would have gotten away with everything.

We know this now, because Bush**'s minions have done worse than Watergate EVERY DAY and they are getting away with it all.

Don't erase 18 minutes of audiotape, delete 5 MILLION e-mails.
"Going large" with your cover-up from the outset helps create the excuse that the evidence shredding was the result of major accidents, or the incompetence of underlings, or unreasonable expectations on the part of investigators. What you expect complete records? Who do you think we are? The government?
It also helps deny to investigators starting points for their inquiries since so much knowledge about the circumstances in which illegal acts took place will be lost or obscured. It sows apathy among the public, and discouragement among those tasked with the investigation. Beyond the stonewall, which will require all your energies to penetrate, there is only scorched earth.

As an opening move it says: You pussies will never stop us, because we don't play by the rules that we hold you to. We will cross any line to obstruct your interrogation of our power. So, in order to prosecute us for something as small as jaywalking, you'll have to impeach the whole administration and try us for treason. Try taking that to the people! You won't dare.
