This is a screen shot from Google Earth of the US Capitol. I am just curious how old this Sat. photo is. Is the construction seen on the east side still underway?

Google Earth has some interesting and very different identifiable times/dates when Satellite photos were taken. For instance, the shot of Dulles airport shows the Smithsonian's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Air and Space museum still under construction yet it was opened in December of '03. The shot of the house i used to live in in Palmdale, CA is after '04 because my car is no longer there and the sod i laid in the side yard in the summer of '03 is clearly visible. The shot of the Aircraft Carrier Intrepid - docked on the Hudson in Manhattan shows a Destroyer and a Sub on the pier opposite the Carrier but since the summer of 04 there has been a Concorde on display there.

I am just curious if any DU'r knows if the Capitol construction is complete and if so, how long has it been finished?

2. Summer '05 it was still very much under construction.
They are building a massive underground visitor center. the lack of a large hole in the ground either denotes early on in construction (most likely) or near it's finish. I remember a massive window from the plans looking up onto the Rotunda, which isn't in the picture so I would guess early construction, round late 2003, 2004 ish.

They had huge walls up around the whole site so you couldn't really see the progress.

Hope that helps.

3. That's the visitor center construction, still underway.
Google maps had it obscured I assume for security reasons.
