People at DU know everything, so help me out here. When
ex-tropical storm Barry went through, we lost our phone dial tone. Then the power went out. The power is back on and has been for hours. My DSL works fine but we still don't have a dial tone on any of our three phones or at the jack that is in the box on the outside of the house. Can anybody tell me why this might be?

2. Sounds like a phone co
issue to me. You might check and see if you can report it via their web page.

3. problems w/the switching equipment at the phone company
That's the first thing that comes to mind. Obviously, if DSL works, chances your phone wiring (from the telco Central Office) all the way to your house is good. Maybe they had a flood in the part of the building that houses the POTS switching equipment, and but the part of the building housing the DSLAM is ok?

Of course, this is a total guess on my part.

4. If you want to call folks...
Get a headset. Hook it up. Download Skype. Sign up, online and with a CC for Skype Anywhere. You can call any phone in the US, Canuckistan and Mexico for free.

5. well
it's either the phone company itself, it's in the ground wire between your house and the main lines, or it's at the junction between your lines and the main lines. That's what I think, at least. Our phone line runs about a half mile before it hits the main lines, and shitty sealing of the junction has lead to multiple dial tone loss, usually during spring/summer

6. Check to make sure all
the phones are in their respective cradles properly. One might be off the hook and preventing a dial tone. Just a last resort suggestion.
