Kookie&Sam see Fred THOMPSON as RAYGUN,Geo.WILL does *not*!!1
Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 09:29 AM by UTUSN
Who died and turned RAYGUN into some kind of gawd, or even some kind of allegedly "great" president?

Kookie ROBERTS and Sam DONALDSON were out-drooling each other to welcome the coming of THOMPSON as the New RAYGUN, who will (this is THEM talking) inject celebrity and persona into the campaign.

Unaccountably, it was Debates-book-THIEF Will who deflated him, saying that by the time RAYGUN had (been nominated?) he had already crisscrossed the country (twice? or for two years?) "communicating beliefs. Can you name ONE THING Thompson believes?"

Sam came up with "THE FLAG."

Yass, our national elections are decided upon what camera-trained personalities "believe" about such things as THE FLAG.

Oh, there was a hint of trouble, whether THOMPSON might be hurt by an old portrayal of a bigot. He must have been DRAWING ON SOMETHING DEEP INSIDE!!1

1. Sam and Cokie are so 20th Century!
I hate her. He is just an asshole. I guess I hate him too.

I learned how to hate from Barbara Bush. Nixon took some lessons from her too. He said so on the tapes.

3. Sam is trying to relive his glory days of the 80's
Cokie(especially after arrogant slap at the Unions during one of her recent commentaries)lives in the DC La-La land. Throw them to the dustbin of history.

12. Donaldson lost me when,
at the end of a c-spin forum with a number reporters/newsies on stage, bemoaning the sagging and general malaise of the profession and the disenchantment of the reading public, there was a question from one of the audience.

The questioner strongly implied that the problem comes from there being no real journalists and far too many overpaid shills for corporate interests who had no interest in reporting on the corruption and incompetence and were selling the policies of professional politicians. The question had to do with the fact that it was the lack of credibility that was driving away audience and that, with the focus only on sensationalism, it was their own lack of merit were at the heart of the problem.

Donaldson, refusing to look at such things and hinting that it was really the fault of the internet and free news, launched into a passionate defense and claimed the "reporters" were doing a good job and everything was cool; the audience was a victim of the overwhelming sharp divisions within the country and would only go where their own points of view were reinforced.

At that point he became a non-entity.

21. Donaldson lost me when he stood in front of the White House
and breathlessly reported (at the start of the Monica scandal) that the Clinton presidency was now measured in days.

2. Where were you when the MSM was polishing his teflon? he was a God even
Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 09:35 AM by The Count
when he was a vegetable - even a vegetable in the White House (and not catsup either). They were so proud of it, they were brandishing that "teflon" like it descended from the sky - rather than being concocted by him...Then Clinton came and they noted : "He isn't teflon" Darn that luck!
Of course, Sam & Cokie were some of the original teflon manufacturers.

4. Best Donaldson story:
Years ago he had Sen. Hollings on and there was a dust-up regarding Korean imports into the US - some of the usal horseshit that the rethugs came up with during the Clinton years - anyway, Hollings was reported to have Korean suits in his wardrobe, and Donaldson asked him where he got that suit he was wearing.

Hollings replied, "Same place you got that hairpiece Sam. If you want to get personal, I'll get personal." He was not a guy to screw with.

5. Funny, I always saw Obama as the 'new Reagan'
...but not in the red-ink, dictator-supporting, proxy war fighting cold warrior mode. Rather, the optimist visionary who's able to pull support from people who traditionally vote for the other party. You know, the whole Morning-in-America Shining-city-on-a-hill thing.

10. Raygun was an optimist visionary? When? When he threw the mentally ill in the
streets or when he estranged half of his family?
What you show here is that you too bought wholesale the drivel MSM sold you.
Raygun was a mean SOP - albeit less transparent that W, because he was an actor and less of a dimwit than W.

that Reagan and those who crafted his message definately had the optomist message. Reagan was the perfect man for the job. He and they were able to put an affable face on hideous policies.

And Obama in a sense is the mirror image.

A gift for oratory, appearing friendly, inspiring.

Yet underneath, or behind the "mask" of his personality his intent IS FOR THE COMMON GOOD.

20. I'm aware of that. I'm not saying...
...that Reagan *was* a true visionary, or a great leader. (In my opinion, he was anything but.)

But that was his image, his shtick. A superficial thing. From a marketing standpoint, I saw Obama as being in the same vein.

The fundies will even vote for Thompson. I doubt they would have voted for Ghouliani, thus splitting their party.

The fundies around here LOVE Thompson.

7. I am surprised their still around?
One would have thought that Sam's public image would have been tarnished. Ah...the joys and protection of Republicanism.

Maybe Kookie and Sam are part of the 'Cult of personality'?

That said, Thompson’s base of support is perhaps the quintessential cult of personality. Consider this gem from Rep. Zack Wamp (R-Tenn.), one of Thompson’s boosters on the Hill.

“We need a president of the United States after the 2008 election who will rise above the partisan challenges … That person is 6 foot 6. He has a commanding voice. He has a commanding presence. He makes people feel secure. He makes us feel confident. He is slow to act but he is resolute. He is the kind of leader innately that the United States needs today.”

If there’s a more inane basis for supporting a presidential candidate, I can’t think of it.

Thompson is tall, therefore he can “rise above” partisanship? He has a deep voice, so we’ll “feel” secure? Please. I might expect such talk from a 12-year-old with a crush on a movie star, but Wamp is a member of Congress. Show a little pride, man.

Carpetbagger Report

Anyone read how Fred is 'living in terror' that Canada might shell Buffalo?

Let me ask you a hypothetical question. What do you think America would do if Canadian soldiers were firing dozens of missiles every day into Buffalo, N.Y.? What do you think our response would be if Mexican troops for two years had launched daily rocket attacks on San Diego -- and bragged about it?

I can tell you, our response would look nothing like Israel's restrained and pinpoint reactions to daily missile attacks from Gaza. We would use whatever means necessary to win the war. There would likely be numerous casualties on our enemy's side, but we would rightfully hold those who attacked us responsible.

but he was making a point as to the hypothetical 'neighbors killing neighbors'...not Canada per se.

Best to choose points of negation carefully, IMO.

no disrespect meant. :hi:

24. hypothetically?
I don't normally use the word 'neighbor' when describing people that are trying to kill me...the analogy IS nonetheless flawed on several levels considering the context. No disrespect meant.

But I assure you the only thing Canada will be lobbing are perhaps http://www.kidzworld.com/article/1909-bizarre-sports-fan-traditions">octopus.

18. The republicker wimps are desperately seeking a daddy,
someone who has an impressive voice and will tell them what to think, when to act and what to do and who will keep them in line when their curiosity about and interest in homosexuality or pedophilia become irresistably strong.

They hope for some messiah who will protect them from themselves.

14. Reagan was a Washington insider ( S&L Lobbyist) for 20 years like Thompson?
No, Reagan had the nacre of a guy who was a bit of an outsider.

Thompson's main career has been in the freaking heart of Washington.

My guess is within 50 years (things going as they are) Reagan will be indistinguishable from a God. Every portico will have a statue of St. Ronnie and daily prayers will be said seeking his benevolence.

19. Reagan was NOT I repeat NOT such a hot president
They talk about custodial presidents, well what did reagan do that was so wonderful.

He caused the slide into the recession with his tax cuts and sneaky bills. He did not cause the Berlin Wall to be torn down as most say. It was half down when he made his speech in front of it. He played that act well. Look at the Iran-Contra Affair with all the exchange of guns and ammo. That's another thing the press always shies away from. I was alive and well in the 80's and I sat thru gas lines for up to an hour at a time. So don't tell me reagan was the next thing to a saint. Wonder what he would have done if a Russian president had moved nuclear missiles within a few hundred miles of our country and was ready to set them off. Thank God we had a president like JFK, but you never hear anything of what JFK did for this country only the half ass actor reagan.

22. His championing of deregulation and privatization led to a whole series
of air traffic incidents and the collapse of the savings and loan house of cards, leaving the American public holding the bag for over a hundred billion dollars. In the early eighties, one of the most repeated jokes was how was Raygun like a broken IBM typewriter-they both lacked a memory and a colon.
Raygun was an awful president. His own cabinet propounded the destruction of the country, with his sec of interior-I think-James Watt? maybe, wanting to sell off all the timber, gut the natural resources-turn it all over to commercial interests-because, after all, Jesus was coming back right away and we weren't going to need any of that shit.

He got fired, but not for his obvious idiocy.
Republicker weirdos, all. The same sort who, at the end of world war one, wanted to change "sauerkraut" to "freedom cabbage."
Dumbasses all and forever.
