Group Behavior 101

I'm studying "Human Behavior in Organizations" in a college class.

I found this tidbit interesting. Who or what do you think of when you read this:

"Escalation of Commitment is a tendency to stay committed to a chosen course of action even though feedback indicates otherwise. In spite of negative feedback or information that does not support your decision to continue, one is compelled to give it another try. (...)

Good decision makers will recognize when escalation of commitment is occurring and know when to call it quits. In doing so, they recognize that they need to make the best decision for the current situation regardless of the costs that may have been incurred in the past."

Hmmm....could it be that George W. Bush is falling prey to "escalation of commitment"? Surge anyone?

an optimistic Thelma and Louise car trip, or Bush/Cheney foreign policy, with the caveat being that a car trip with Thelma and Louise wouldn't be as painful.
