Did it surprise anyone when Hillary took the lead tonight?

but she is not my chosen candidate - yet.

I want Clark to join the race, and I really want to see Obama do well.

But I was impressed by Clinton tonight. I think she's doing what I always believed she can do - alleviate the concerns people have about her and come across as strong, smart, capable and wise. I think she did that very well tonight.

The reason I've always liked her is because she has a long history of just blowing past people's expectations of her - and I think she's continuing to do that.

The whole argument over whether she's smart or calculating depends entirely on whether or not one is willing to view her objectively. If you hate her, she's calculating. If you like her, she's wise. That's normal, though.

that winning isn't everything. If it is necessary for a Democrat to become a Republican in order to win, then that is a very hollow victory.

Especially if it loses Congress for us, like, er, the last Clinton Presidency did. Myself, I would like to have a candidate who can come to my district and help my local Democrats win re-election. If Hillary is the candidate though, then I think it would hurt to link yourself to her, at least in my district and state.

Liking her is not being objective. Nor does hatred does not prove a lack of objectivity. Take Bush (please). I hate him because I looked at him and found him to be an arrogant liar. The lies and the arrogance came before the hate, not the other way around.

It is typical of America though, for people to conflate 'clever' with 'wise'. The farking dictionary even makes them synonyms :wtf:

I was especially struck by her maneuver after Obama took that shot at Edwards about being "four-and-a-half years too late in showing leadership": she delivered a stirring little generality about how the differences between Democrats are as nothing compared to the diferences between Democrats and Republicans. It made her look calm and above personal acrimony.

That said, I think she did a good job over all, and I really liked her standing up to Wolf about hypotheticals, her Cheney zinger was great, and I liked her stressing diplomacy when it came to Iran... she has sounded far too hawkish on Iran to me. I am not a fan of hers, but she's certainly gone up a notch for me ... which of course means diddly to anyone but me :) Everyone on that stage is so far above anything the Repubs have to offer!

She didn't lead the discussion, and her positions don't lead anybody on that stage. She was given more opportunity than many to establish herself as "leading," it's true.
