Speaker Pelosi on Jefferson’s indictments:

“The charges in the indictment against Congressman Jefferson are extremely serious. While Mr. Jefferson, just as any other citizen, must be considered innocent until proven guilty, if these charges are proven true, they constitute an egregious and unacceptable abuse of public trust and power. As we have demonstrated in implementing tough ethics reforms and passing tough lobbying reforms already this year, Democrats are committed to upholding a high ethical standard and eliminating corruption and unethical behavior from the Congress.”

1. Dear Nancy:
Go look up "ethics." I'm sure you never have.

18. She shirked her duties, as well as the duties of Congress as a whole
by taking impeachment "off the table". They take an oath also to "uphold and defend our constitution from all enemies, both foreign and domestic...."

The GWB43 misadministration is a clear and present danger to both our Constitution, and our Country as a whole....

The Dem Congress is doing great with investigations so far... if you don't count the fact that Gonzo is still in office or that none of the investigations have led anywhere yet.. no one has been locked up or held accountable for ANYTHING yet...

Yeah, I have a few issues with the Dem leaders right now, but it won't stop me from voting for them or supporting them. I'm just an impatient guy, I want what I want and I want it yesterday. And I don't want EXCUSES, I want RESULTS!

13. What does that have to do with being ethical? And she's not perfect, but
she's doing the best she can imo. Can you suggest anyone who might be acceptable to you?

3. Nancy....force him to resign! You know we screamed about that with DeLay,
and although he too is still screaming that he's innocent, he's OUT of the Congress until he's either exonerated or convicted. Get him the hell out of there before he tarnishes all of the Dems!

8. YES! I've been reading the threads and catching up on this
issue that I'd all but forgotten. Wondered a long time ago if it was planted during Katrina, but apparently he never claimed that the money wasn't his.

9. Nancy now votes in the Louisiana 2ed? I thought she lived in California

The voters in Louisiana will determine what is and isn't acceptable from Jefferson.

And the rest of us will call them a bunch of idiots if they let him go on.

They have their rights, we have ours.

22. Wasn't he JUST reelected?
I don't think Nancy should wait until the 08 election to see what the La. voters want to do! We have the culture of corruption tag well planted around the entire Pub Party right now. DON'T SCREW IT UP!!!!

14. Faux radio new never mentions his name without
first loudly proclaiming 'Democrat' Congressman William Jefferson. Makes me mad when i know they didn't do that with Foley on TV. They put Democrat after his name. In other words if it's a Republican they seem to gloss over it. Now that they have ONE Democrat on the hook they love to proclaim party affiliation.

17. It's Beyond Unacceptable. He Should Not Hold The Privilege Of Being A Rep One Second Longer.
Though I can't disagree with her statement, I'm disappointed that there was no forceful and direct call from her for him to resign immediately. IMMEDIATELY.

21. I know, we ought to have a zero-tolerance corruption policy.
It doesn't do anyone good to have people on our side fucking up like this.
