We've done some maintenance to the General Discussion forum
Due to the immense size of the General Discussion forum (more messages are posted in GD than anywhere else on DU), we're forced to periodically move some stuff around in the database to keep things running as smoothly as possible.

Essentially we have a new GD forum with a new URL, into which I've moved several pages worth of threads so the current discussions that were going on in GD can continue. All new threads posted in GD will go into the new forum, but you should not notice anything different about this forum.

The old GD is now search and browse only. If you are a donor, you can search it by clicking here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=search_advanced&select_forum=364&search_archive=yes

In nearly all cases, your bookmarks should still be intact and old links to threads will be intact. However, there may be a small number of cases where threads you have bookmarked or see linked in your 'My DU' point to a thread where it says that the topic has been moved. In these cases, simply follow the link to the new location found in the original post for that thread.

Thanks for your patience, and we apologize for this inconvenience. This maintenance helps keep DU running as quickly and smoothly as possible.

3. Is Greatest Page going to update? Everytime I click on it, it shows how it looked
a couple of hours ago. It's not updating for me.

15. I noticed that, too.

The top GP thread says it has 56 votes, but in the thread itself it has 59. *sigh* It will only distract us for one day...

4. Givin' this a fifth recommendation.
That way people like me, who often just hit the Greatest page on a busy day, will know what's going on.

5. I wish the r/t forum was hidden like 911
or maybe we could customize the "latest threads" page,
I'd include the 911 threads and hide the r/t threads,
they are mostly sophomoric bs.

11. Having to double click in greatest threads is truly annoying
...for those of us who don't have a world of time. Just want to read the messages without paging forward and backward 2X.
Grrrrr. Guess I'll be reading less.

12. That explains an odd thing, I think
just now I openned up 'my DU' - saw a response to a post on an Admin thread - clicked it and got a message saying that the thread was no longer available (I never heard of an admin thread getting zapped.) Easy enough to remedy - actually open the thead and look for the response instead of being lazy. :D

13. I for one would like to commend you guys for keeping this website running so smoothly . . .
despite the massive number of posts on any given day . . . DU may well be THE technically best message board site on the net, and for this you have our very special kudos . . .

14. I notice that not all current discussions that were going on in GD
can continue.
Some current discussions were locked instead of being moved to the new GD.

for instance this one:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=3163587&mesg_id=3163587

Why is that?

16. This maintenance helps keep DU running as quickly and smoothly as possible.
I'LL SAY! This is almost the only site I can stand to use on my dialup connection, but since it's almost the only site I need, that's OK. ;)

Thank you! :bounce:
