U.S. CONCLUDES ANOTHER GULF EXERCISE

ABU DHABI -- The U.S. Navy has concluded another exercise in the Gulf as part of an effort to reassure Gulf Arab allies that face threats from Iran.

On Thursday, the navy concluded an exercise of its two carrier strike groups near the Iranian coast. The exercises took place in the Straits of Hormuz, the passage for 40 percent of global oil shipping.

The exercise was comprised of the navy's USS John C. Stennis, USS Nimitz and the Marine Corps's Bonhomme Richard amphibious assault group. The exercise consisted of nine ships, 140 combat aircraft and 17,000 personnel in the largest daylight transit since 2003.

3. I'll have to ask my son just how often they do manuvers in that area.
I know that it's std practice for those ships to go out every 6 months and for a very long time they've been going to the Med. My son has talked abou the straits of Hormuz and he was stationed on the Nimitz.

I'm wondering if a lot of this was just all show publicity and not much more than std. manuvers.
