Willing Dupes
Here's what I want to know:

How on earth do the Bushes get supposedly otherwise intelligent people to be their patsies, as someone on another thread called them. And that is the accurate word.

I mean really. What I'm after here, is what makes the Bushes so darn compelling that people are willing to immolate themselves for GHWB and W and Bar? I simply don't see it.

James Baker is a.k.a. the Bush family fixer. Every time they get into trouble, he comes a runnin'.

Alberto Gonzoles, is a Harvard Law grad and by any outside measures should know better. Yet, he's willing to play the uninformed dupe to the point that your average seventh grader could best him in a debate.

Harriet Miers is a lawyer who comes off like a sixth grader with a bad case of puppy love for *. Eventhough she's way underqualified, she agrees to be a SC candidate. She eventually withdraws because of the uproar about here nonqualifications got to be bigger than her love for *.

I Lewis "Scooter" Libby is another lawyer who is willing to fall on his sword for the "team."

What makes the Bushes so precious to these people? It doesn't make sense.

I've met a lot of great people in my career in my job as a technical writer and in my political activities. But I've never met anyone who could get me to be so unethical in my business dealings.

Help me out here. What's up with this loyalty above all, especially competence, crowd?

2. That's the obvious answer

3. Probably blackmail is involved too
Since they all appear to have some real problems they don't want anyone to know about.

4. psychopaths are very good at aquiring henchmen to do their dirty work.........
bush, in a position of power while governor and later (cough-cough) president, brought along his long time henchcrew that had sold their souls to him earlier in his and their political careers; all of the henchcrew members are wannabe psycopaths as they have learned well from their master.

5. In a strict heirarchy, there is a clearly defined power structure.
Some people get a sense of security from the order, good or bad. Some like knowing that someone else is in charge. Some like to think that, however unlikely, they themselves might be the one with all the power. Some still trust authority without question. Some are too stupid to do anything other than what they're told. So, it's for a bunch of reasons, and I've only listed the ones off the top of my head.

7. I'm asking because
there seems to be a significant minority of the US population that appreciates this hideously demented form of "leadership."

8. As of today, 32%. 1/3 of the population of this country is completely insane.

11. That would be the cheap easy answer
to say that they are insane.

I think it's more than that. I think they genuinely enjoy playing Follow the Leader, especially if the leader is (or appears to be) an unmitigated, completely irredeemable hard ass.

9. I think you ask a very important question,
and it deserves a really good answer, but I'm sure not able to come up with one very easily!

To people who can actually think, it seems incomprehensible that anyone would believe the dim son is worthy of their loyalty. He can't even present himself as a halfway bright leader, and in fact is a public embarrassment to most Americans by now.

There have been plenty of jokes made at many presidents' expense, and lots of them on target, with criticism justified. But I can think of NO president who has deserved the derisive, dismissive laughter he generates as much as this one. He is a walking joke, in fact ... yet here he has been in the Oval Office for six years and counting, tearing our country and our Constitution to bits and trampling over the very freedoms that he touts so fraudulently wherever he appears.

What IS wrong with people who stick by such a sorry excuse for a "leader"?

I honestly don't know, but I tend to think it has something to do with the "crime family mentality."

After all, as another poster noted, Chimpy brought most all of his dastardly crew with him from a long way back -- many of them from his dad's circle, still calling the shots from behind the scenes.

It probably has to do with that bane of our modern world, the unbridled thirst for power, wealth and control, which seems almost primitive in its naked aggression and hubris. Nothing seems to matter to these people except gaining and holding power, whatever the cost to others -- even their own children's futures! Anyone who challenges their control is fiercely attacked and, if they have their way, destroyed.

I suspect there is a great deal of fear among the "henchcrew," also, since they know better than anyone what happens to the enemies of their "don," and surely they don't want to share such a fate!

Ultimately, though, I believe that when very bad actors gain so much power as the BFEE has, other bad actors who have affiliated themselves with such "leaders" see that affiliation as beneficial to them, too. Hang onto the coattails of such wicked power, prove yourself loyal no matter what you're asked (or told) to do, and you will be rewarded.

It's about the only thing that makes sense to me, as to why anyone would stick with these bastards.

All I keep thinking of as I write this, too, is that the very sorts of "friends and supporters" of the Bu$h Cabal remind me of those who were also loyal to Adolph Hitler -- to the very end when der Fuhrer LOST his power along with his mind.

We can only hope, I guess, that they all come to a similar bad end as those guys did.

But really? I share your bafflement ... and I despair for my country in the hands of these "leaders."

10. I usually shy away from the
Bush-Hitler comparisons.

But we can ask the same question about the Nazis. Of course Hitler attracted the riff-raff and the psychopaths. But he got his start with the backing of some wealthy and established people. They fell all over themselves to help him. They could not do enough for him.

We know that Hitler was a personal failure, a hate monger, a slovenly, petty little nothing of a man. And that was before he became a monster. Just what in the hell did he have, that everyone treated him like God? It had to be more than oratory.

Historians have spent a lot of time analyzing Hitler's rise to power. They will be doing the same with *, unless he blows up the world first.

Yeah, Hitler was more evil. But if * could be dictator, he wouldn't hesitate to expand his own evil.
