Think Progress has Scoop on Gen. Pace's Replacement (It's NOT GOOD)
Some insight on Mullen can be gained from a speech he gave to sailors in Pearl Harbor in Feb. 2007:

In his opening remarks, Mullen, a Vietnam War veteran, told Pearl Harbor sailors: “I honestly believe this is the most dangerous time in my life.

“The enemy now is basically evil and fundamentally hates everything we are — the democratic principles for which we stand … This war is going to go on for a long time. It’s a generational war.”

From a Feb. 2006 interview with Mullen:

You use the term ‘Long War’, and it’s important to understand that and really grab this issue because it is going to be around for a significant amount of time. I call it generational. That said, there are still traditional capabilities that are very much required.

When Fallon was appointed in January to lead CentCom, analysts noted the choice of a Navy officer reflected “a greater emphasis on countering Iranian power, a mission that relies heavily on naval forces and combat airpower to project American influence in the Persian Gulf.” In announcing the nomination of Mullen this afternoon, CNN Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr said that Mullen “watches Iran closely.”

More about how his replacement was "unusual" at....

1. It's about preparing to attack Iran. Now all they need is the "provocation."
I'm convinced that we are all fucked to the nines, if B*sh does this. :scared:

2. Which makes me wonder what this buddy-buddy thing between...
Bush & Putin is all about. My guess has always been that if the US attacks Iran, Russia will side with Iran and so will China.... I hope that I am correct... Either way as you said we are F***ed....

7. Yes...Media says New Cold War...but every time I see Bush & Putin together
in photo's they look as chummy as Bush did with Blair. Plus Poppy and Babs visited Pootin and Wife at their vacation Dacha a couple of years ago and the photo's from that meeting showed THEM very chummy.

Something not good....Bush says he's challenging Putin/Putin does a little back and both of them are snakes probably distracting us from what's really going on with the Media Bloviating about Cold War it's probably the exact opposite.

if they impeach and tie him up with legal wrangling.

Where is Madame Squeaker and Mr. Reid? What is on their agendas - more useless legislation that gives amnesty or takes away more of our constitutional rights?

6. Could this Congress give B*sh his Gulf of Tonkin resolution?
What horror will get him what he wants? Johnson was able to successfully overblow a relatively minor incident to get his authority to widen the Vietnam war but this nation is more cynical, now, I think. What will it take for Congress to authorize action against Iran? Another catastrophe on the level of 9-11?

Or will B*sh rely on the grossly unconstitutional unitary executive power he has granted himself to invade Iran, without the oversight of Congress? And, if he does, will impeachment still be off the table?

Perilous times.

5. Paris Hilton Blitz to be replaced by Iran Strike? Turkey invades Kurds?
We all know something is UP with the Paris Hilton nonsense. Every time Bush has been in trouble we get fake Terra Alerts and Entertainment Nonsense...BUT...the last blitz that was this bad, imho, was just before "9/11" when we had non-stop Chandra Levy and her death was more important than Paris Hilton's escapades.

Bush adds Lawyers...9 lawyers now....he knows somethings coming down and it's Cheney, too. They've got to do something....they are desperate.

I hope this isn't true and that Gates is the kindly person who is putting some stops on Cheney/Bush...but given how they always do the opposite of what the news puts out...I would have to believe that given Gates history...he's up to no good. A kinder gentler version of Rummy.

Again...hope my gut is wrong and that they wouldn't DARE to pull an Iran Bombing or get involved with Turkish/Kurd battle.

11. Is he actually?
As opposed to 'merely' drinking the we're-good-and-they're-bad kool-aid?

That would merely annoy and bother me (if considerably), but if you've got an actual dominionist or something as the JCS chair, that's an entirely different level of ugly.

8. This is a frightening turn of events. How many ships are parked
within striking range of Iran? Maybe Paris knows.

10. Two thing keep going through my head...
- Bush's belief that he is on a mission from "God", and that he alone has special insight into the middle east situation and the balls to do anything about it.

- Bush's stated intention to make sure that no incoming President can take us out of Iraq and undermine all that he has done.

Now I see two Navy hawks in place, ready to say "Yes, SIR!" when asked to take the fight to Iran.

Taking all that into account, I feel Bush will not leave office without attacking the Iranian nuclear facilities, at the very least. It is inevitable.

12. This worries me
If a general doesn't want to follow the President's order, he has to resign in protest. Was there some order that Pace refused to follow? Why was he actually replaced?

13. It's definitely worrisome...but the spin from MSM will take care of that for us...
