Today is yet another landmark in Iraq-soldier #3503 has been killed-26 soldiers and Marines since June 1st.Instead of my usual rants, I’ll just lay the facts out for you. Draw your own conclusions.
1. Halliburton Corporation-has earned $20 billion since Iraq Invasion-cross reference-“Dick Cheney”
2. Lockheed Martin Corp- $19 billion in ONE YEAR-cross reference “Lynne Cheney” and “Haley Barbour”
3.Boeing Corp.-$19 Billion per year. Cross reference “Donald Rumsfeld” and “Darlene Dryun”
4.General Dynamics-$10.6 Billion/yr Cross reference “Colin Powell”,”Gordon England”

1.3503 dead, 111 of those suicides.
2.25,868 injured and unable to return to duty.
3.As the troops’ deployments are being extended,at least three in ten of their stateside family members report a “severe” difficulty in paying bills.
4.Divorce rates have gone from 32% to 56% for Military families.
5.The increase of traumatic brain Injuries has gone up exponentially due to IEDs.These are difficult to diagnose and a contributor to PTSD.
6. Approximately 91,000 soldiers are returning home with PTSD, and very little resources waiting for them.
7.400,000 veterans become homeless any given year-a number that is sure to increase as our troops return.
8.Under DoD Directive 1325.6,an active duty military troop is forbidden from public dissent.

Research all your facts before you claim to support the troops. A yellow ribbon and a “Thanks-a-million” card won’t cut it…not while war profiteers are becoming increasingly wealthy off our troops’ blood. There used to be a law against war profiteering-now it seems to be part of the career ladder to the White House. What has happened to my country?

The Shelter seems like a good thing, too, and I hope it does well enough to serve as a model for more around the nation as they seek to. They do support our troops, and that's a tribute to Monkeyman in itself.

32. Point of clarification....

I am not fund-raising. I am not exhorting anyone to actually make a donation. It was only intended as an "if you are so moved, here is some information." Please consider my post in the context of the "in lieu of flowers" comments in obituaries.

I have been unable to find any news articles or obituaries. Evidently the info about the funeral home was incorrect. Visit the Shelter website to see the type of thing MonkeyMan worked for. They have photos of their Grand Opening - uncaptioned. I understand he was present, may well be in one or more of the photos.

33. The information about the funeral home was NOT incorrect.

Monkeyman/Dale Peters passed away on May 27. Services were @ Modell Funeral Home. His remains have been cremated.

I did not contact them; just tried a web search. They don't seem to have much of an online presence.

I am going to assume that the report posted was just a mixup - that whoever answered the phone did not have the record in front of them and preferred making something up to saying "I am incompetant." We've all dealt with such types.

I know I tried to find a relative at an assisted living facility and got "we have no record of any such person" when I knew they had lived there for six years, up until a couple of months prior.
