It's like America is going down the rabbit hole faster than I thought, and I'm helpless to do anything about it. I received the one talked about in this blog--

a few days ago, and it came from my wife's best friend. I rebutted the article--politely--but that touched off a whole malestrom from the woman's brother. My wife has acted as though I was way out of line to post the rebuttal to whole list, and she says that sort of thing isn't "hate speech" (not the term I used in my email response, but is what I said it was when talking privately). Gee, I try to rebut a bigoted spam mail and I'm the bad guy. :eyes:

Going further down the rabbit hole, I received as a "Father's Day" gift, a book that may not be too-well-intentioned, by my sister's best friend, 100 People Who are Screwing Up America. Prominently featured on the front cover are Michael Moore, Al Sharpton, Barbara Streisand, Howard Dean, and Senators Kennedy and Byrd. (Oh sure! It's Michael Moore's fault more than 3000 of our soldiers are dead in Iraq. It's Barbara Streisand who created Gitmo. Yeah, and Howard Dean single-handedly caused gasoline to go up 3 times in price with no energy policy...I could go on and on...)

Maybe I should be glad--that the waste of paper she gave me isn't going to a sheeple who would actually be swayed by its paltry arguments.

Still, it goes to show you...and I'm getting depressed by this...that still, after all that's happened in the country the last 7 years, after all the scandals...too many of those closest to me still don't get it. I wonder if this retarded country ever will.

17. well, it's bad form to NOT blind-copy people you send chain emails to.

If you must send them at all. But most people who forward such drivel don't understand that. I say you did nothing wrong in replying to all. After all, she was the one who left everyone's email for all to see.

I also find it interesting that people think they an just say stuff like this (and if they feel it's worthy of forwarding, then it can be assumed the agree with each and every point made) and NOT get a response. It's as if they have never heard the word "debate" before. Also disturbing that the simply assume everyone agrees with them.

Perhaps you could give your sister-in-law a copy of Gore's new book.

15. I got a revolting letter about the 'lack of gratitude' the (black) people of

New Orleans displayed toward the (white) people who were there to help them. It came with the addie of the head of a hospital training school in Mississippi. I wrote to the hospital and the faculty senate. They took care of it very well, I must tell you. Step in if they give you a handle. You will save a lot of people trauma. RV, still rinsing my brain over the e-mail.

I'd guess it was pulled because at the end of the OP, the person's private home address and telephone number was listed. Hard to think of a reason for doing that, unless it was a veiled invitation to harass them.

Such personal info posting is against DU rules.

25. She got a hate chain letter in an email

It was about Muslims. The woman who started the chain letter sent it from her work email. So kiteinthewind googled the name of the company she worked for and emailed the boss asking if the company approved of this woman using their email address to send out racist emails.

Lots of back and forth followed. The owner of the company was appalled and told the employee to apologize. Employee apologized, but just for using her work email, not for the contents of the email.

Anyway, end of story - the woman no longer is employed there.
