A week from now people from throughout the country will start boarding buses and trains for their long trips to the nation's capital. Others will get up early on Saturday morning to make sure they're part of what promises to be one of the most important mobilizations against the war in Iraq.

In our national office the phones are ringing off the hook. Several national news outlets are planning to cover the march; others are doing stories on the march this week and next.

Over the next eight days we need to get thousands more leaflets into people's hands and make hundreds of phone calls to get the word out. We need to pay for a stage, a public address system, and a riser for the media to broadcast the rally.

We need to raise $25,000 over the next week to pay for these costs. Your contribution can help make the difference in whether we have a large expression of popular opposition to the war or a truly massive peace march.

DC METRO MAPS
We will be posting directions and info about which Metro lines and stops to use, based on which Metro stop you'll be parking at. So, please keep checking back! In the meantime, you can find maps of the Metro and DC on the Metro website to acquaint yourself with the geography of the area.

WHAT TO BRING
The current forecast is 45 F and sunny! But the weather can change quickly! So please be prepared. Dress in layers; you may be cold while standing during the rally, but warm up while we're marching. Bring water and food for the day, as there is little available for sale in the Mall area. Strollers are OK.

Drums and Other Noisemakers: To help make this march a spirited, energizing, and powerful event, bring drums, tambourines, and other noisemakers. Improvise -- pots, pans, and plastic tubs all make great percussion instruments. Drum sticks for drumming are OK.

Banners, Signs, and Sticks: We will have posters available in the assembly area to promote the key messages of the march, but we encourage you to bring your own signs and banners, identifying the community or constituency you represent and/or expressing your reasons for why the war and occupation in Iraq must end. NOTE ABOUT STICKS: Sticks are OK for posters, if they are more like slats than sticks, i.e., relatively thin and rectangle-shaped. Posters can also be attached to cardboard tubes.

A coalition of local activist groups called Stop The War Coalition- Austin has planned a statewide anti-war march in solidarity with national gatherings in major cities such as New York, San Francisco and Chicago. The nonviolent action will call for the end of war and the immediate withdraw of United States military from Iraq.

The location is the Weslaco campus of South Texas College, Buildings F & G which include the Cafeteria. Some of us will meet later in nearby Archer Park at about 2:30 to an Anti-War Rally and march towards a local war memorial.

4. I hope the weather warms up in time

Thursday and Friday are supposed to be really cold here in D.C. and forecasts I am seeing say the temperature will be about 41 degrees. Please dress warmly and double your socks if you can. Also taking water and a sandwich is a good idea. But don't drink too much water, bathrooms might not be conveniently located with the massive numbers of people we're expecting.

I'm really excited as I have the opportunity to go up on a bus of the Prince William Peacemakers, of Prince William County, VA, plus other angry Democrats who are active locally in politics. I've been doing some local protests with them for the last few weeks. We're going to decorate the bus so if you see us, give us a wave. We are parking at a church near the march area.
