"I just don't trust Democrats."
Edited on Thu Jun-14-07 04:16 PM by Labors of Hercules
That's what a Republican on my staff said this morning, so I asked her "why?".

She said: "I will never vote for a Democrat because they are just spineless and sleazy. They say a bunch of shit and then tuck tail and run when the 'going gets tough'..."

Then one of the Democrats on my staff joined in the conversation and agreed that "Democrats look like wimps, but really aren't because they're less dogmatic and more diplomatic".

the reply was concise: "well, I want people who lead when there's a crisis, not somebody who talks about everything in a committee and then doesn't do shit..."

So what happened? My trusted Democrat staff member tucked tail and AGREED with her! So I had to step in and said "Well, Dubya's been doing "shit" for 6 years and it's left us up "shit" creek, so I'd prefer someone who does something right for a change."

Too many Democrats, even our leadership, are afraid to stand up and ARE coming across like a bunch of wimps.

So all I have to say is, be strong, make a stand, and earn the respect we deserve! :patriot:

7. Work is not the place for it
...but I let everyone else know just how bad of a president Bush has been. I pull no punches. He and his republican sheep have us in grave condition in Iraq, the world, and even here domestically. They are up to their asses in corruption.

When you do not have enough of a majority to override a veto, there isn't much else you can do but bring forth bills to show they want change, whether they getted passed or not. We need to continue to make the republicans vote these bills down and making the president veto them. Every one will come back to bite them in the ass come election time.

2. This seems to be a key issue amongst the repubs I have talked to
Not the freeper class. But the day to day voter. Dems come off to them as not standing up for anything. They don't know where they stand. I have known people who will vote for someone who's politics they disagree with because at least they know where they stand.

Trust is a huge issue. Its emotional. It trumps reason.

10. Just because the talking heads parrot "Dems have no ideas/Stand for nothing"
doesn't make it true. The media perpetuates this nonsense and hardly ever allow Democrats to speak for themselves.

18. Doesn't matter
Those not as involved in politics that still vote are going to gather their impression of things from the media.

We have a number of problems hobbling our democracy these days and one of them is the media. A critical one. Its not just their twisted representation of politics. Its also the information overload. The truth could be presented on the tube tomorrow and it would be swallowed whole by all the other noise present in the system.

themselves or their constituents or the causes for which they were elected.

13. Not just the repubs
The progressive wing (i.e. "The Base") also feels this way. Most of the left that I talk to are feeling pretty lost and are tired of giving time and money to a party that never seems willing to "own" their principles. Manhy of them are giving up on the Dems or dropping out of politics altogether.

Think Cindy Sheehan times 20 million and you'll have some idea of what may await the Dems in 2008.

28. or not.
Mr Kucinich is very much a populist, and his candidacy isn't getting much tration, even around here, where I've read many different posts about how the poster likes his ideas but won't vote for him (even in the primaries) because he's "unelectable."

Well, yeah, if you don't vote for someone, they do have a hard time getting elected. :eyes:

I, on the other hand, will vote for him...again.

22. Now that Dan Bartlett has resigned, who will cover for
Little Lord Pissypants? Bartlett is the one who buried and destroyed Jr.'s NG records. Think about it. Not ONE member of this administration has served in our military. Deferments abound! Hmmmmmmmm...

Bet that Repub wouldn't have much of a response then. Who's the coward now?

12. But who is the FDR today?
Who stands up and kicks butt in the Democratic Party today?
Even Jimmy Carter issed a weak appology for his Shrub comments. Or at least he allowed that story to stand.

The think that really gets me is how the "consultants" always say that the Democrats have to "play ball" and not be obstructionist. Like being obstructionist and playing hardball really hurt the Republicks 1994-2004...

14. But she trusts the Republicans why?
Cause they'll believe things no matter how the facts change?

Cause they'll stay the same course no matter how the facts change?

Cause they'll take her tax dollars and use it to enrich themselves instead of providing governmental services?

Because when a crisis comes they sit around in a class room doing nothing, or refuse to leave their vacation or continue the same war policy for years and years, or get "experts" to claim 99.9999% of scientist are wrong so we don't have to do anything?

Last time I checked the Dems aren't afraid to talk about real issues like immigration reform, health care reform, governmental oversight, minimum wage, ending the war, port security... these are topics Republican Congress refused to discus on the floor about while they were in power and try to avoid even now. For what? So they can discus Sox the cat's budget, flag burning... That's courage I tell you.

24. We keep making this argument like it's somehow "her" problem
If the woman said she votes rethug because she hates gays or because she thinks Jeezus is a conservative, then we could just write her off. But this is something that has been clear for a long time: the American people don't like wimps.

They dislike Republican wimps as much as Democratic wimps. Just take a look at GHWB's presidency and his caving on the taxes pledge. The same holds for the current right-wing furor over the immigration bill. I've heard many repubs say that they'd be willing to vote for a progressive who will just stick to their principles (witness Feingold's success, even in conservative areas of the state).

Yeah, any real progressive would lose the 28% pro-bush voters and perhaps some of the undecided idiots, but they never had them in the first place. The real potential for success lies in bringing the progressive majority to the polls by giving us some true left-wing candidates to vote for.

16. When are these assholes going to take responsibility for the fact
that the ReTHUGlicans have given this administration a BLANK CHECK for 6 years. You might want to ask that Republican how he/she can even say they can't trust a Dem with a straight face? BWAHAHAHA! Oh, BTW- you might want to throw in that AG Gonzo just went and appointed a US Attorney when the Congress passed a bill that explicitly stated he couldn't do that. It was one of the few bills that had close to unanimous backing. How does that Repub feel about an AG who doesn't believe in the RULE OF LAW? Sleazy? How so? Make them back what they say.

"Tuck tail and run..." BWAHAHAHA! That's why they WHINE 24/7 about EVERYTHING! LOL!!! Here's a picture for ya...Please...pass it along! LMAO!

Pathetic little crybabies. Wahhhhhh!!! We started this illegal war! Now, YOU fix it! Waaaaaaahhh!

Oh, ask when's the last time they heard a Democrat threaten Federal Judge? Ask Judge Walton how it feels to get threatening letters (against him and his family) from members of his own party. Think it won't happen to him/her? BWAHAHA! Think again!

19. They are just so obsessed with that crap
Sometimes it is better to do things by committee. Democracy is tough for that reason; it's not just following a king.

They sound like authoritarians to me. They don't want to participate, they want to bow down to someone else's authority. Sounds pretty sick if you ask me.

20. "lead when there is a crisis"
So she does want a fuehrer.

Did Bush lead when he got a briefing that said "Bin Laden determined to attack the US"? Did he lead when he sat in a classroom like a zombie after he heard the US had been attacked? Who exactly did he fire for failing to protect the Pentagon? They had about an hours notice that a plan had been hijacked and could not protect the Pentagon in our nation's capitol.

Remember the blackout in the northeast? Neither Cheney nor Bush did anything about it. Cheney stayed on vacation and Bush still went to a fundraiser.

What was he doing when Katrina hit? Did he provide leadership after that crisis?

The only 'leadership' he provided after 911 was some Cowboy-speeches, creating a much bigger crisis in Iraq and pushing through yet another tax cut for the wealthy. Right now we've got crises that Bush created by 'leading' us into them.

Edited on Thu Jun-14-07 05:19 PM by notmyprez
A large % don't like what the pres and the repubs are doing either, but the dems better watch out because those who voted them in expecting them toe get things done might not vote for them again if they don't (get things done). Then our country would be even more screwed.
