509,000 names on FBI Terror Watch List
"A terrorist watch list compiled by the FBI has apparently swelled to include more than half a million names.

Privacy and civil liberties advocates say the list is growing uncontrollably, threatening its usefulness in the war on terror.

The bureau says the number of names on its terrorist watch list is classified.

A portion of the FBI's unclassified 2008 budget request posted to the Department of Justice Web site, however, refers to "the entire watch list of 509,000 names," which is utilized by its Foreign Terrorist Tracking Task Force."

4. I have a friend on that list.
He is widely known as one of the world's greatest *******s, lives in ********, but works all over the world. He's an absolutely great guy, smart as hell, speaks several languages, and hangs out drinking, sometimes, with guys like me and our mutual friends. One of my very good buddies...

His problem? He looks like a thug: brawny and bald, wears blue jeans and a leather jacket, and heavy kicks. He usually has a dark blue watch-cap on his pate. A charmer, great with the ladies because he knows how to express his affection with panache. Glib and witty - I can't say enough good things about him.

every single time he takes a plane flight , which is several times a year - he is pulled aside, searched bodily and baggage picked apart - the full-bore search every time he steps in line at the airport. He's remarkably good-natured about it.

6. Sigh.......
My son, the guy with eyes so blue they are practically navy, the big white bread guy with the curly brown hair and vandyke beard, gets stopped and searched every damn time at every damn stop along the way. He refuses to go there anymore, unless under dire pressure.

Every single time in five years he has to travel there, I can guarantee that he is going to be late getting there and late getting back. It's gotten so bad that if he has to be there, he plans to be there at least eight hours ahead of time, and usually just makes it.

This isn't making friends and allies!

5. and most of those people are domestic,
more than a few are from the peace movement, and most likely have no ties to any terrorist activities, unless one uses a VERY broad brush.

It's nonsense. We're in the process of emulation, thanks to Harper, and it is yet one more thing that is likely useless, and definitely a provocation.

Stupid, stupid, stupid............
