I don't think American leaders should consort with royalty
When I see our leaders holding hands with Saudi royals it makes me sick:puke: When I see the English royals at the white house it makes me sick:puke: When our dear leader has the Spanish king to the western white house/ TeXXXas pig ranch and snubs Zapatero it makes me sick:puke: What does royal ass kissing have to do with democracy?

1. It's called Diplomacy.
And it's a damn good thing we still have at least some idea of how to do it.

3. They are the official Heads of State
of their countries. It would be an international diplomatic insult to not invite personsl of royalty (however we might feel about it) to the WH when they visit the United States.

Having said that, the Bush family's close ties to the House of Saud is really extra creepy.

to royalty as well as most of us of European descent.

14. like we're doing now?
the only difference between royalty and our 2%'ers society is what we call them. Instead of Kings we have corporations, with much larger kingdoms, and many more subjects.

15. he's not talking about corporations
he's talking about sovereign heads of state. Our president is the sovereign head of state of the US, and so he equal to the 'royals.' Of the ones he mentioned, only the Saudi royals have any power, the British and Spanish royalty are just figure heads. they may be Heads of state, but the prime ministers are the real heads of government.

16. I know what he's talking about..
you mentioned that the revolution is over, and royalty are now peers. I was just mentioning the fact that there is royalty in this country, and evidently they reign in many others as well...and they are corporations.

10. For the record, I agree.
To them it's all about rubbing elbows with money. It's part of their trickle down ideology. It's warped, the idea that we the people don't matter, and should just scramble for our masters' scraps. It makes me sick too.

11. Odd
Regarding the holding hands with Saudi royals - that's one of the few things I give Bush credit for. I'm certainly no expert on Arabic customs, but from what I've observed in my visits to Arabic countries, male friends holding hands is customary.

I'd be a little uncomfortable holding hands with another man, but I'd like to think that I also could overcome my inhibitions to show respect to another culture. I mean, it's not like you're showing subservience, you just showing that you respect their customs (and good manners, to boot).

Regarding the British - yeah I'm suspicious, too. I'm still a little pissed off at King George III. I think that we should show their Queen (or King) the respect due a head of state only as long as they continue to recognize our independence and not one damn minute longer.

12. The Original Thirteenth Article
of Amendment To The Constitution For The United States

http://www.amendment-13.org/

"If any citizen of the United States shall accept, claim, receive, or retain any title of nobility or honour, or shall without the consent of Congress, accept and retain any present, pension, office, or emolument of any kind whatever, from any emperor, king, prince, or foreign power, such person shall cease to be a citizen of the United States, and shall be incapable of holding any office of trust or profit under them, or either of them."

On March 12, 1819 the State of Virginia, with the enactment and publication of the laws of Virginia, became the 13th and FINAL state required to ratify the above article of amendment to the Constitution For The United States, thus making it the Law Of The Land. With the enactment of Act No. 280, March 12, 1819, which was Voted, En Bloc, and publication of the Revised Code, the State of Virginia notified the Department of State, the Congress, the Library of Congress, and the President of their action by issuing to each a copy of the Laws of Virginia.

This Article of Amendment is intimately connected to questions of war and national defense. It is designed to combat internal subversion and discord sowed by people who are adhering to powers foreign to the Congress of the United States without stepping across the bold Constitutional line of treason. The authors of the TONA wrote it after some additional experience with how the British Empire, as well as other European nations, actually conduct their affairs. It is a corrective and supplemental measure to go along with Constitutional treason.

This Article of Amendment added an enforceable strict penalty, i.e., inability to hold office and loss of citizenship, for violations of the already existing constitutional prohibition in Article 1, Section 9, Clause 8 on titles of nobility and other conflicts of citizenship interest, such as accepting emoluments of any kind for services or favors rendered or to be rendered, and is particularly applicable today in the 21st Century as government is increasingly FOR SALE to the highest bidder, as foreign and multinational corporations and individuals compete to line the pockets of politicians and political parties to accommodate and purchase protection or privilege, i.e. honors, for their special interests.

In terms familiar to the common man, this might quite properly be called the use of bribes and graft by individuals and powers foreign, i.e. external, to the Congress of the United States to subvert the constitutional process and suborn our political system and the interests of WE THE PEOPLE.

You are not alone in your feelings it would seem.

18. You are right
Bombing the Iraqis into democracy is ridiculous.

Standing on principle against monarchy makes sense. And in favor of justice versus authoritarianism.
