Southern Baptists Question Human Role in Global Warming; Say Regulations Hurt Poor

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Southern Baptists approved a resolution on global warming that questions the prevailing scientific belief that humans are largely to blame for the phenomenon and also warns that increased regulation of greenhouse gases will hurt the poor.

The global warming debate has split evangelical Christians, with some not only pressing the issue but arguing humans bear most of the responsibility for the problem because of greenhouse gas emissions. Other evangelicals say talking about the issue at all diminishes their influence over more traditional culture war issues such as abortion, gay marriage and judicial appointments.

The SBC resolution, approved Wednesday near the end of the denomination's annual meeting, acknowledges a rise in global temperatures. But it rejects government-mandated limits on carbon-dioxide and other emissions as "very dangerous" because they might not make much difference and could lead to "major economic hardships" worldwide.

Specifically how will regulating greenhouse gases drive up the cost of goods & services, particularly for Third World countries who can't afford goods & services if we keep stealing all their resources?

The cost of auto insurance on the SUV's in Darfur will be higher? Sub-Saharans won't be able to run the central A/C in their yurts all day? Bangladeshis will have to give up their electric juicers? The Yachting industry in the islands off India & New Zealand will be devastated if the water levels don't keep rising?

They're poor because we keep liberating their natural resources & giving nothing back but baptism & abstinence education. The spirit of Jerry Falwell, channeled through their southern orifices lives on. :puke:

Yeah they've got their priorities straight. Keeping people who love each other from marrying is more important than even talking about climate change. *sigh*
