Whatever happened to: "Make Them Accountable"?
Seriously! What happened to the promise to make them accountable??? Listening to the beltway pundits, their explanation for low numbers of Bush and low numbers for Congress (read: Democrats) is the Iraq War. Are these people blind or simply disconnected?!

Just now, I hear Jerry Nadler on the radio with Ed Schultz. (only caught the end of it) Nadler's talking about hearings he's going to be having, the wrongdoing, abuses, etc...we have to have a hearing on this! So, Ed asks the big question: "So, Congressman, what happens if you do find evidence of wrongdoing?"

Nadler's response: 'Well...uh...we'll be writing legislation to make sure it doesn't happen again.'

:wtf: :banghead: :argh:

6. Better yet, they'll call for the resignation of top official in their closing comments
Big whup! Bush will just shrug and remind them that he's The Decider. GRRRR

Sorry...Just hit the need-to-vent-from-frustration level after hearing another "Oh, we'll pass legislation!" How's that working for ya so far?

3. Accountability only applies to non-Republicans.
Or designated fall guys for the BFEE and their criminality.

8. But that's just it!! Don't claim to pass legislation to 'fix it' when you
can't get the goddamned votes!!! Go after that bastards like a dog with a bone until they're screaming Uncle!!! Then they MIGHT get some effective legislation passed!

:argh:

9. Whatever happened to: "Make Them Accountable"?
I think they figured out that if they "make them accountable" then they have to hold themselves accountable and I think most of them don't like the way that would play out.

13. Then they really are going to lose
I'll still vote Democrat, but I'll be damned if I'm going keep handing over time and money to campaign, GOTV, volunteer, sit for 13 hours as a poll watcher.

Maybe I just need a breather.

16. Anything short of impeachment is impotent gesture.
Edited on Fri Jun-15-07 01:08 PM by pat_k
Impeachment is not really about holding them "accountable" (i.e., exacting justice, retribution). It's not about "them"; it's about us. We must impeach to rescue the USA from its current status as a War Criminal nation that illegally spies on its own citizens. We must impeach to rescue our Constitution and restore our self-esteem as Americans.

Impeachment is for us, but justice/accountability demands retribution. For that, Bush, Cheney, and their co-conspirators will have to face prosecution at The Hague.

But there will be NO justice until we confront the truth as a nation. No Congressional action short of impeachment is capable of stopping men who have proven over, and over, and over, and over, and over that they believe themselves to be above all law and immune from the consequences of their actions. To allow such people to hold the MASSIVE power of the American Presidency is an intolerable dereliction of duty.

The notion that the branches share power equally is crap. We gave Congress -- our Voice -- the ultimate trump card: the power to impeach. Their refusal to use it in the current crisis is lunacy.

We expect the men and women of our military to risk life and limb to defend the Constitution. Why should be expect less from the men and women in Congress?

11. They really need to be careful
they (the Dems) could lose the whole thing if they don't actually do anything--I am talking about us "netroots" or whatever they want to call people talking on the web either who just give up on politics, decide to go local, or find other parties that are willing to not only talk it but move and act.

We are seeing a lot of this going on right now with the PEOPLE rising up on the right --the immigration issue. That was supposed to never end but they started talking and next thing you know you have the Minutemen and they want actual results.

I am sure that the ice will clinkle just as sweetly tonight at all the cocktails parties though.

15. What with the immigration thing?
Hell they have most of the country convinced that THEY (them the ones from "Mexico") are going to take over the country. Oh so what they are convinced needs to happen is to delay their legalization...of course they don't know it but they are basically serving to keep their own wages down.
