Former Bush Appointee Schlozman-Purged Female Minority Lawyers & Replaced Them With "GOOD AMERICANS"
Edited on Fri Jun-15-07 12:25 PM by kpete
According to a 2005 complaint submitted to the DOJ's inspector general's office, voter suppression
kingpin Bradley Schlozman was purging female minority lawyers from the appelate section of the Civil Rights Division -- each of whom had been hired under Democratic administrations -- and replacing them with what he called "Good Americans".

Complaint: Schlozman Aimed to Replace Lawyers with "Good Americans"
By Paul Kiel - June 15, 2007

During a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week, Bradley Schlozman, the controversial former senior political appointee in the Civil Rights Division, was battered with questions about his efforts to politicize the division.

A number of those questions from senators centered on Schlozman's efforts to purge the appellate section of the Civil Rights Division -- the small, but important section that handles civil rights cases in the court of appeals. What were they getting at? An anonymous complaint against Schlozman sent to the Justice Department's inspector general in December of 2005 spelled out the allegations. The complaint, obtained by TPMmuckraker, was filed by a former Department lawyer. You can read it here.
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/docs/anonymous-ig/?resultpage=2&

"Bradley J. Schlozman is systematically attempting to purge all Civil Rights appellate attorneys hired under Democratic administrations," the lawyer wrote, saying that he appeared to be "targeting minority women lawyers" in the section and was replacing them with "white, invariably Christian men." The lawyer also alleged that "Schlozman told one recently hired attorney that it was his intention to drive these attorneys out of the Appellate Section so that he could replace them with 'good Americans.'"

How close does this country have to get to Nazi Germany for most people to start making the comparison?

Our worst nightmares of bigotry and greed running rampant through our government in every agency, in every sphere.

Cspanlovr asks, "Can we call them Nazis yet?"

I ask, Can we understand that we have suffered a fascist coup yet, that these are not normal political times, and that we must look to the power mechanisms of the coup and FIX them? It may be a long, difficult road, but we MUST do it.

I think the "trade secret" code in all the new voting machines, owned and controlled by rightwing Bushite corporations, is the obvious culprit. Not the only one, but the most obvious one--and the one that needs fixing before anything else can be fixed.

We have theoretical sovereign power as a people to completely dismantle the war profiteering corporate news monopolies--pull their licenses to use the public TV/radio airwaves, pull their corporate charters and seize their assets for the common good, and give our public airwaves over to small, creative, competitive businesses, non-profits, worker coops and government funded broadcasting, to widen public access to the airwaves and greatly broaden the political and creative spectrum that is represented there. Bust up the monopolies. Restore the "Fairness Doctrine."

We have that power. But we cannot exercise it without transparent vote counting and real representation of our interests in government. The corporate news monopolies are Culprit #2. Non-transparent vote counting (recently instituted, in parallel to the Iraq War--and closely related to it, I think) is Culprit #1. These are the two basic requirements of democracy: vote counting that everyone can see and understand, and free speech/access to information/good journalistic watchdogs over government and corporate activities.

The ultimate malefactor is the "military-industrial complex" (which needs deconstructing as well), but we can't get to that either, without the right to vote and transparent vote counting.

Ask 70% of Americans what they want, and it will--on every issue--be the opposite of Bush Junta policy. And now we have the Democrats ESCALATING the war, and pouring $100 billion MORE into the war profiteers' pockets, and giving us double-speak about it. "We want to end the war." Right. Seems like I heard that somewhere before. 70% of the American people opposed to the war and wanting it ended, and they escalate it instead. (No wonder Congress' approval rating is lower than Bush's! Did you see that? Bush-28%. Congress-23%. So much for our right to vote.)

SOMETHING IS WRONG. And assholes like Scholzman are just the tip of the iceberg of it. We are not getting majority representation on ANYTHING. The only bright light are the investigations (--and I think that the American people outvoted the machines, in a surprise to the Junta, catapulting the Democrats into committee power, but still unable to get adequate representation on the major policy issues, like the war; we can't even get a transparent vote counting bill out of this Congress).

Bigots, wingers, idiots, thieves, murderers, torturers in charge of our government. It is a COUP. It is not enough to put people like Scholzman in jail. We really need to understand how they could ever get into positions of power. And the problem is not limited to the fascists who took power, but also to their enablers who are parading as Democrats and progressives. Scholzman makes them look good. But THEY are the ones who could have prevented "trade secret" vote counting, and didn't.

24. wow -- great post -- very similar to a conversation i had tonight
all night, as a matter of fact.

the line between the ideologues and moderate republicans is stark, and the ideologues are in control. someone said tonight that we have to get "moderates" to the polls to vote out the creeps. that the problem was that moderate people don't vote.

well, we did vote. the coup already happened. the vote was stolen twice. the worst has already happened. it's been happening since the bush v gore "decision." then it was 911 and a phony war. now we are itching for a fight with putin and palestine as totally gone shitballs.

the worst has already happened. we have nothing to lose at this point. we have to address the vote or else get the fuck out before someone comes looking for the posters behind our IP addresses... you know... to replace us with "good americans."

22. For Heaven knows...
...women, especially Democratic women, have the nerve to want Peace and the unmitigated gall to desire Prosperity for all, not just already-rich white men!

Damn Communists, the lot of them.

The weaker sex should, as the "good" book says, shut up and ask their husbands for knowledge and instruction at home; for it is written it is a shame for them to speak out in public. They should know their place as back in the good ole Moral days, where the familial Domicile Sweet Domicile was solely their husbands property; just as women themselves used to be wholly owned. It's entirely incredible that in this modern, evil, pre-Rapture latter-day they even have control over their own wombs!

Do you see what I mean about they being subversive Commies?

Women should be allowed to live inside (good Conservative Christian men *are* compassionate, you know; just ask them & they'll tell you!) and serve their men and children; they should keep it and clean it as long as their husbands desire...
which is usually until that sweet young trophy wife comes along who happens to be oh, about 4 years younger than his youngest daughter.
(Hello Fred Thompson!)

Schlozman, like other neocons, is obviously short a testicle. Check out the pear shaped bodies and whiny voices. Real men don't abuse authority. This is not to say all one nutted men are this way, nor are all men with pear shaped bodies and whiny voices short on testerone, but there is a pattern among the neocons.
