CNN mulls moving Lou Dobbs to 8 p.m., opposite O'Reilly and Olbermann
Variety: CNN mulls moving Dobbs to 8 p.m.
NBC's Brown may switch to cable network
By MICHAEL LEARMONTH

CNN is weighing a shakeup to primetime that would see the low-rated "Paula Zahn Now" replaced by "Lou Dobbs Tonight" at 8 p.m. EST.

CNN is also said to be considering NBC's Campbell Brown for the 8 p.m. slot, the most competitive in cable news, with Fox's Bill O'Reilly and MSNBC's Keith Olbermann both outrating CNN during the hour. Brown's contract with NBC expires in August, but the "Weekend Today" anchor has drawn strong interest from CNN to anchor a primetime show.

After "Larry King Live," Dobbs helms CNN's highest-rated weekday hour. Sources familiar with CNN's thinking say the net believes the firebrand populist could better compete against O'Reilly, who averaged 2 million viewers a night in May.

Dobbs averaged 811,000 viewers a night at 6 p.m. in May.

4. KO won't be, but Captain Liverspots will be....he usually has a lock on the 8pm xenophobic
..crowd...and having Dobbs move into that time slot might upset that apple cart..

2. And how many viewers has KO? I like Dobbs because he is
supportive of middle America and anti-corporation, but if it came down to a choice between the two of them, I'd chose KO, but switch channels when he does his silly news (don't like it much)

3. Oh please... This man will find himself losing his audience...
Olbermann has nothing to worry about all. It'll only point out how stupid Dobbs is and his bigotry will be hanging out like an old slip. Matter of fact, Olbermann'll probably gain a larger audience share.

6. Lou Dobbs will do well in ANY time slot against ANY competitor on ANY network..........
illegal alien amnesty legislation must be replaced with securing our borders. Incidentally, Lou Dobbs is MARRIED to a Mexican woman and he is certainly NOT a bigot; bigotry should NOT be confused with illegal alien amnesty. KO will continue to do GREAT with his show and o'lielly will probably lose more viewers.

22. MANY made HUGE mistakes about bushco's GD 'war'................
The important thing is that NOW those that made HUGE mistakes have seen the 'truth' and are fighting against the total incompetence and blatant lies of this administration. As I said, KO will do great! peace.

20. Thank you thank you Double T for mentioning that. People who
are the least racist never consider it it to be a part of their personal egotistical defense, and Dobbs could have used that ad nauseum if he were a bigot like he is accused of being. I will continue to watch both, switching over to Lou when KO has his mandatory infotainment segment. I usually dine at this time, so I've never been able to listen/watch Zahn.

23. Lou Dobbs is one of the very few OUTSPOKEN advocates willing to standup,.......
fight and shout for the royal screwing that has been done to our middle class, as well as others, by the criminals of corporate america and our enabling congressional legislators. Every damn American should bow to Lou's courage and passion regarding the plight of the American worker; if 'YOU' don't care about Lou's message, then you certainly are NOT paying attention. Thanks WiseButAngrySara for checking in; like you I am ANGRY TOO!!

epithet to be slung around heedlessly these days.

32. Anyone who uses the term "middle class" already misunderstands the issue
The working class is getting screwed, alright, but it ain't by open borders. But then, people who consider themselves an endangered "middle class" can sit on their asses listening to race-baiters and demagogues like Mr. Dobbs (already given the familiar moniker "Lou" -- a signal of true fanaticism) rather than doing any real class and labor analysis.

sorry if anyone was slighted. The race card won't work here as illegal alien amnesty legislation has nothing to do with race; it's all about being ILLEGAL!! The Mexican people, as well as many people from other nations, need to fix the problems with their own governments in their own countries, instead of looking to this nation as a rescue for their own government's oppression and corruption. People that don't watch Lou Dobbs' program would never KNOW that he is actually NOT a racist or a demagogue; ignorance isn't limited to just racists.

31. If he wants to stop being called a bigot
Maybe he should stop citing white supremacist tracts. This "I'm married to a Mexican" business is starting to sound like the usual racist who notes how many black friends he has. Plenty of people who are out and out bigots have black friends, or are married to Mexicans. By their deeds you shall know them.

white male, Christian xenonphobe. Lou Dobbs against Olbermann? Puh-leeeeeeze. O'Reilly's the one who should be worried.

11. Yep. If CNN wanted to compete against Keith, they should
try doing some real news. News that's important to people.

That would be the only way they could draw from KO.

14. I like it - I think Dobbs will draw from Billos audience
Yeah, Dobbs is over the top on immigration though he does make some good points, i.e. the U.S. employers knowingly employing illegals. But they do have good coverage on Iraq and a lot of trade policies. And in the 2nd half there are some good interview some days. I'm with the DU'er who said they'd switch channels when KO is doing the silly stuff. And I'd switch when KO is on those too long commercial breaks.

Edited on Fri Jun-15-07 05:12 PM by SoCalDem
Liberals "suffer' through Lou's xenophobic rants & grind their teeth...but will always choose keith :)

the right-wing racists will choose Lou, but they already did..so no gain :)

another thing i find odd is this..

programmers seem to forget that 99% of us out here "time-shift" and watch what we want ..when we want anyway :) Put it on at 3AM,..I'll record it if i want to and watch it whenever :)

19. This isnt good news for Keith
Not because he will lose audience to Lou, but because Lou's established audience is bigger than KO's. Any scenario in which KO is bumped to third is not good. Hopefully Lou and O'Lielly's audience will overlap and both will lose.
