Kos member will file complaint to disbar Miers, Gonzales
From a post on dailyKos:

Harriet Miers should be disbarred (59+ / 0-)

I am filing a complaint against her and on Gonzales with the Texas Bar.

I'm going to make it pinpoint accurate - pointing to their exact perjury and lawbreaking, not a broad political diatribe. It will be tied to the Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct for lawyers in Texas.

Then I'm going to shame the bar into acting. Local media will be contacted.

1. I think Gonzales is a friggin' bum, but what will removing him
do anyway? Why all the attention spent on him? I still can't understand that. If he is removed, would we get someone better? Probably not.

12. Do they need shaming? Of course....but....
would a pig be shamed if you called him a pig? He wouldn't even notice, he'd just keep wallowing in the mud!

26. Shaming is secondary. Disbarment would force Gonzo's removal from DOJ.
The shaming part might just influence Congress to more highly scrutinize Bush's nomination for Gonzo's successor. It might also focus media attention on the problem with Meirs, Gonzo, and Bush.

5. welcome to DU
Do you happen to remember the reason Bill Clinton was disbarred, through the complaint filed by schmucks and wingnuts?

He was disbarred for lying about a blowjob. Shouldn't Gonzales and Miers face some kind of professional smackdown for corrupting the Department of Justice and attacking the Constitution?

9. Yes, I agree they should face some ind of smackdown
But my point is, if he were to resign, do you think Bush isn't going to do everything possible to plug in someone who will just rubber stamp all of his policies?

10. By all means don't give up, but why not concentrate on
fighting a fight that we can win and make a difference at. Why not keep pounding the legislation to get us out of Iraq? Why waste any effort on Gonzales?

11. Why keep attacking Gonzo?
Edited on Sat Jun-16-07 02:39 AM by Kool Kitty
Because the shit that this administration has done to the Department of Justice, under the criminal leadership of Gonzalez, just may last longer than the war. And be more damaging.

13. Very true and i am in complete agreement
but since he serves at the pleasure of the president and bush is so freaking stubborn and supports him 100%, what will it get us? I just get tired of redirecting energy to Gonzo...I think it is distracting.

Anyway, that is all I am going to say on this. Yes, Gonzo has done many things wrong, but short of catching him in a lie, I don't think he is going anywhere.

14. Catching him in a lie? One lie?
I don't know if you read the papers, but he has been caught in a whole lot of lies. This isn't a distraction, this goes to the very core of the system of justice in this country. All his rats are deserting the ship, another one quit today, and Bush will either have to fire him or have this go on and on. I know you don't want to say any more about this, but you better think a bit more about it.

24. A sitting AG getting disbarred would be some heavy baggage
Bush COULD keep him on, but every day a disbarred lawyer
stays on as AG, it'll be the subject of cartoons all over
the country. Of course, National Hate Radio will hail the
victory of loyalty to Bush over respect for the rule of law,
but even they will have to go through some kind of wild verbal
contortions to justify it. Plus, should it ever come to
larger action against Gonzo, the disbarment would be some
VERY powerful ammuntion against any argument for keeping him on.

32. Clinton was disbarred.
SALON | Dec. 11, 1998 - Clinton should be disbarred - http://www.salon.com/news/1998/12/11newsb.html

A LEADING LEGAL ETHICIST OFFERS A PUNISHMENT CONSISTENT WITH THE PRESIDENT'S CRIMES.

BY LORI LEIBOVICH | As Act I in the impeachment drama draws to its conclusion, the political stakes keep getting higher. To unscramble the latest plot twists and turns, Salon spoke with Monroe Freedman, former dean of Hofstra University law school and one of the country's leading legal ethicists, about what Act II -- an impeachment trial in the Senate -- might look like. Freedman also offered a glimpse at the eventual Act III, the aftermath of all this, and why President Clinton should never be able to practice law again. ...

Ordinarily, the burden is on the party who is seeking to change the status quo. There is always a presumption that things ought to stay the way they are, unless there is some affirmative reason for changing it. Well, that argues for at least a preponderance of evidence. I would say, as in most things that are really important, there would be a minimum of clear and convincing evidence. ###
