Enough is enough! A petition to bring back Sam Seder's weekday show

Dear Air America,

In his short time at Air America, Michael LeBron -- a.k.a. Lionel -- has consistently demonstrated that he has neither the talent, temperment or intellectual rigor to merit a spot in the Air America lineup. The quality of his shows range from annoying to unlistenable, his muddled arguments are cobbled together from right-wing talking points and he has shown nothing but contempt for loyal Air America listeners and their progressive values.

The final straw came this week when Mr. LeBron invited his friend Bill Donohue on for a friendly chat about alleged Catholic-bashing in the media. When callers objected to giving a homophobic, anti-semitic fascist a platform to spout his hate, Mr. LeBron responded with a blog post stating that his callers were "stupid", "pathetic" and reiterating his "contempt ... and concomitant pity" for them.

This is something that would never happen on a Sam Seder radio show. First, Sam has done enough research to know that Bill Donohue is a hateful demagogue who has had more than enough opportunity to spout his views on other media outlets. Also Sam, being one of the most accessible and considerate radio hosts in the business, would never have responded to listeners' objections with anything but respect and a genuine desire to address their concerns. Finally, Sam has enough self-awareness to know that a post like Mr. LeBron's does nothing but reveal the writer as an insecure pedant and desperate intellectual poser.

We therefore respectfully request that you restore Air America's commitment to progressive values by dropping The Lionel Show from your lineup and reinstating Sam Seder as your weekday morning host.

The new owners seem to be in a pro-Hillary, DLC mode, I stopped listening to Lionel. He has a mushy mouth sort of speaking which is annoying enough, but he is definitely on the right but trying to sound liberal on some subjects. It ends up muddy and muddled at best. Glad someone clued me in on NovaMradio-Stephanie Miller and at this time slot. Bring BACK SAM!!!

The only thing good about the Lionel show is that I discovered Stephanie Miller. If they put Sam on at least it would be a tough choice between two excellent progressives. There are PLENTY of Lionels' on the air all ready, Air America is supposed to be different.

even bothered to listen in. What has happened at AA has made me a devoted NPR listener.

you have to include Laura Flanders. They've replaced her live shows with genuine crap. I'm glad that AAR has a stable owner, but Giant Ego Mark Green gave himself a show! I love Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, and Rachel Maddow, but all the new additions are really stupid. I miss Sam everyday.

52. KTLK in LA rebroadcasts Sam's Sunday Show

on Saturday night. The last 2 Saturday nights, they rebroadcast a lionel show & Sam at the same time. It is maddening. It is obvious someone is asleep at the wheel but no one seems to care. I guess it will be a regular feature.

I miss Sam terribly. I'm reluctant to list his qualities for fear of missing some, but a few of those which Lionel lacks are informed, humanistic, and civil.

Lionel has some talent and if he were doing a music show, I might listen. He picks good music. He's also an experienced lawyer. But he doesn't really fit what I see as the Air America mission, (besides making money.) That is, to pursue progressive solutions to the problems that affect all of society. Lionel doesn't qualify, Sam does.

I think the Greens have blundered here.

On edit: I wanted to add that I don't think that having the hateful and hideous Bill Donohue(sp?) on the show is necessarily a bad thing. Tom Hartmann would do it, but he'd expose Donohue for the ignorant bigot that he is. But Lionel had him on and promoted his ridiculous thesis. Lionel absolutely has the right to do this, but it's not what I listen to Air America for. Lionel is really a wannabe. His "shock-jockiness" creeps out, and he's gratuitously sarcastic. He's too happy to just insult people.

and his overt bigotry and hatred by attacking your listening audience that deigns to point out the "true" Donohue, as Lionel did last week-- is way beyond the pale.

Yes, Lionel plays good music-- I will give him that, but given that AAR is not trying to build itself as a music channel, but rather an intelligent liberal/progressive political talk station--Lionel needs to go. Yes, Lionel is a "shock jock, wannabe."

We need to not only send this petition to AAR, but XM as well.. Perhaps they can assert some pressure.
