Impeach the President
Submitted by davidswanson on Sat, 2007-06-16 19:19. Activism | Impeachment

On Tuesday, 6/26 at 7 pm at the David Clarke Law School in DC a book event for "Impeach the President: The Case Against Bush and Cheney," ed. by Dennis Loo and Peter Phillips, Seven Stories Press will be held.

Reps. Dennis Kucinich and Maxine Waters have been invited to speak at our event as well. We hope to have CPAN-2/Book TV cover the event. Details on the event and address follow:

An excerpt from the book:

"The Bush-Cheney administration and the radical right-wing forces that it represents constitute an extraordinary threat to the world. As events unfold, this becomes ever more painfully evident: The appalling debacle of Katrina; the disastrous and immoral occupation of Iraq with no end in sight; the murder of prisoners by American personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo, and the covert rendition of prisoners to nations known for torture; Bush's admission that he secretly and illegally authorized spying on all Americans and his brazen declaration upon being caught that he will continue to do so, and on and on. Their corruption, incompetence, criminal activity, and disregard for human rights and the law seem endless. The White House has become increasingly embattled as a result of these events, but it will take unprecedented popular action to end this regime.Governments do not fall of their own weight; they must be driven out."

2. It's sad
It's so sad. We had the chimp by the balls and we caved. I know we only authorized funding for a limited time, and I know that what we did was a calculated maneuver, but we caved to the chimp. The asshole has his swagger back now. I don't give a shit, putting your political future ahead of our kids getting killed and maimed over there is wrong. And if we cave to the chimp over this what chance do we have of actually impeaching the treasonous bastard? I am very disappointed with the performance of the Congress I helped elect to office. They're not representing me. I want out of Iraq, now.

6. #5 k&r...got a letter from Levin re: his bill
about wounded warriors and my response to him.....

senator_levin@levin.senate.gov wrote:
Dear Ms. xxxx:

In light of your previous correspondence, I thought you might be interested in hearing about a bill I introduced yesterday, along with a bipartisan group of 29 senators, to address the shortcomings in care and treatment of our nation’s wounded soldiers.

The Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors Act (S.1606) lays out a comprehensive path for the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs to address the shortfalls in the care of our wounded warriors. This bill was passed unanimously by the Senate Armed Services Committee earlier today.

The problems with the care of our nation’s wounded warriors were dramatized in a series of articles in The Washington Post in February and in a subsequent joint hearing by the Senate Committees on Armed Services and Veterans Affairs. This bill seeks to address many of the problems highlighted in the articles and subsequent hearings. The bill includes provisions that would, among other things, end the inconsistent ratings for the same disabilities by the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Veterans Administration (VA); provide for a seamless transition from DOD to VA care by requiring the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to jointly develop a comprehensive policy on the care and management of service members’ transition; and authorize $50 million for improved diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of members with Traumatic Brian Injury (TBI) or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

In addition, this bill would provide the active duty medical benefit for three years after the member leaves active duty for medically retired service members with disability ratings of 50% or higher. It would provide urgent and emergency medical care and counseling to family members on invitational travel orders by VA health care providers, and would establish a DOD and VA Interagency Program Office to develop and implement a joint electronic health record. It would also require the Secretary of Defense to establish standards for housing for military out-patients and for military hospitals and clinics and specialty medical care facilities, increase the minimum severance pay to one year’s basic pay for those separated for disabilities incurred in a combat zone and six months’ basic pay for all others, and eliminate the requirement that severance pay be deducted from disability compensation for disabilities incurred in a combat zone.

The nation’s shock and dismay at the deplorable conditions unveiled in the Washington Post articles reflect our unwavering support, respect and gratitude for the men and women who put on our nation’s uniform. They deserve the best care and support we can provide, and I will continue to work to achieve that goal

Sincerely,
Carl Levin

My response:

First of all let me say this....you wouldn't have to be working on this if you would just end this damn war and bring our kids home...either that or ship the Bush twins over there and see how fast it would end then.

Next, my father is a resident at the Soldier's Home in DC and if you really want to check on something....check on them as well. Bush has managed to sell the land to developers and plans are underway for shopping malls and cineplexes.

Our men deserve better as the grounds used to be peaceful and quiet where my father could walk around in safety. Now, it's partially owned by a Catholic University and run by a company which specializes in managing 'retirement' homes. THIS IS A GOVERNMENT FACILITY!!!! This is NO way to treat our vets who deserve better.

AND, there are places there which make WRH pale in comparison - the new mgmnt just doesn't show you those. Come with me when I go to visit and you can take a tour and see for yourself the unabated THEFT going on by another Bush cabal of crooks.

Anyway, thanks for responding. Now do what the PEOPLE of the US have asked you guys to do - - end the war. Impeach Bush. Jail Cheney and Rove. Start cleaning up America at the top.

Thank you for your time.

Respectfully,

3. Impeach. Convict. Remove. Indict. Imprison
or stop complaining about him in hopes I'll stay so outraged that I'll be distracted from the fact that he got away with it all.

Because I won't ever be that distracted, that forgiving - or that stupid
