We have had enough guns.
Governments wrestle with the dilemma of how to balance 'guns & butter'. Like most wrestling matches, the whole thing is rigged. Guns usually win, until the public misses butter so much that they insist on having it.
The US has practically bankrupted itself by trying to pretend that we can have both.. Lots of guns and lots of butter. The fallacy is that they spend REAL money on guns and finance the butter with Monopoly money. When the Monopoly money is all gone, and the butter's running out, they just pilfer another monopoly set and take its money.
Our 'butter' is hopelessly rancid, and we are starting to get that taste burned into our consciousness.
Margarine is not the answer. We need REAL butter again.
This country longs to be REAL again. The right wingers have their definition of "real"..the progressives have theirs too.
"Real" to most people, no matter their party, is the feeling that we are a caring people. We took our solace for decades from being a people who did good things. We never were as good as we thought we were, but most of the world thought we were a "good" country.
The sneaky, hidden side of our government always pumped money into weaponry, but our prosperity and our largess covered it well. Most people probably thought their government was "on their side", even if from time to time, they were reminded of the internal poverty or injustices. We still thought that there were possibilities for conquering those demons.
We no longer think that way as a nation. It appears that we now know our butter is gone forever. We flail around aimlessly...hoping to find that one person who can give us back our butter, and in doing so, cure all our other ills.
Our leaders (most of them) just want guns and the money they make.. they are content to give us cheap Chinese butter...(fortified with anti-freeze & assorted melamines)..
