The battle over the Immigration Bill continues. It is seen as a war of us against them. Many in the Republican base think the 'them' are the hoards of brown skinned men, women and children form Central America - they are wrong. The 'us' is the American middle class and the 'them' are the feudal corporate overlords who wish to destroy the American middle class. Now they have shipped nearly every job they can off to third world countries to avoid paying a decent wage and to escape those inconvenient safety laws. There are some jobs that just can't be outsourced like the ones at the Del Monte plant in North Portland that was raided last week. Nine out of ten of the workers supplied to Del Monte by American Staffing Resources was illegal. I for one cannot believe that Del Monte management was not aware of this but they are the 'real' criminals here but will go unpunished. 1. Let's target the employers, not the victims.

When slavery ended in the US, we went after the slave owners (employers). The slaves were freed (legalized in the current immigration parlance), not punished.

2. And this is why the illegal immigration problem will never be solved.

Del Monte, Tyson and other corporations are making huge unlawful profits off the backs of illegals...and getting away with it.

Not only do they not pay a fair wage or even a legal wage, they ignore safety standards while processing the food we eat.

So deport all the illegals you want, it wont help until corporations stop their illegal hiring practices. We don't have an illegal immigrant problem, we have an illegal employer problem.

3. The Middle Earth Journal has it ABSOLUTELY CORRECT...................

The 'immigration bill' is ONLY for the benefit of corporate america and will result in the further destruction of the AMERICAN working middle class with a magnitude similar to NAFTA.

This is quoted from the Statue of Liberty. Is this not the true spirit of American liberty? The current immigration bill, with it's point system to qualify for immigration, is completely antithetical to this belief. Please fight against this bill as it is un-American.
