I sat down on a bench in the water room next to another mom, and we got to talking. She apologized to me for her son's loud voice and getting so excited with the water tables. I hadn't noticed, frankly, and told her so. She then said that, given the war, she sometimes feels like just giving up since there will be a draft that will take and kill her sons anyways. Then she gave me a look, and I told her that I was scared for my kids, too.
Then she admitted that she'd actually voted for Bush because she thought he was a born-again Christian. I told her that, as a Christian, I highly doubted that. She said that she agreed and that she really regretted voting for him, that he'd lied to her about faith.
Here's the odd part: then she told me that she got an e-mail on Obama the other day supposed detailing how he was really a Muslim and was raised as one. I told that it wasn't true and that he's a Christian now. Then she asked how could she believe it if Bush lied about his faith. I told her that, while it's a concern, it sure looks like Obama's more of a Christian. She followed that with saying that she would be afraid some "crazy person" would kill him anyway.
Um, wow. That was weird. Still, it sounds like the right-wing Christian base is catching on but then distorting and twisting things from there. Thing is, she was a former teacher and obviously well-educated.
