Gore's Assault on Reason - does Al read DU?
The Intro just blew me away! But I'm now into Chapter Six, and in the last few chapters he's pretty much already telling me what I already know (because I read it on DU!).

Now, it's obvious that Al is one of the smartest (if not THE smartest) Vice Presidents we've ever had. It also means that he has access to information that the average person (or the average DUer) doesn't have access to. And, yet, in this most famous "tell-all" book I'm reading the same info that I've read before on DU!

Either President Gore (he's STILL my President!) has been reading DU. or he is right about the role that the Internet can play in debates and open forums, and DU is a perfect example of what he is talking about!

Yeah, we all bitch and moan and have flame wars and feelings get hurt - but we have genuine debate. At least, sometimes.

1. I'm of the belief that all problems can be solved by first dialog
followed closely with action.

2. Imagine if DU and other internet forums existed during IranContra, BCCI, Iraqgate, or
the illegal wars in Central America.

Reagan AND Bush would have been impeached.

3. YES! What if?
Even in the days of Walter Cronkite and "true investigative reporters", people looking for a realistic perspective on the politics of the day would turn to Johnny Carson and Saturday Night Live. As Al Gore pointed out in his interview with Jon Stewart, throughout history it was often the "Jester" who was the only one allowed to speak the Truth.

7. He reads a lot of progressive sites, so I assume he hits DU at least occasionally
But he doesn't necessarily get information from DU - - he gets a lot of it from the original sources. For example, he asked the scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory whether the aluminum tubes being pimped by the Smirk admin could be used to make atomic weapons. They told Gore there was no way. That same information was all over DU eventually.
