Mom sentenced for underage sex contract.
AP) A mother accused of arranging a sex pact to allow her boyfriend to have sex with her 15-year-old daughter while the woman recuperated from surgery was sentenced Monday to 12 to 22 1/2 years in prison.

The 41-year-old woman pleaded no contest in April to three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. A no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but judges treat it as a guilty plea at sentencing.

The Associated Press is not identifying the woman to protect her daughter's identity.

"What you've done to your daughter is one of the worst things I can think of," Judge Timothy G. Hicks said at the sentencing hearing.

Beyond despicable. She should have gotten life. She ruined that girl's.

1. One thing about this is really strange:
In exchange for sex, the 15-year-old testified she was to be paid and receive privileges, such as piercings, hair dyeing and permission to stay overnight with her own boyfriend.

would agree to it.

I think that mom is despicable. She was afraid of losing her boyfriend? Some loss. :puke:

Not to that extreme by any means, but putting the boyfriend before the kids. It's sickening and no real man would want that.

12. Oh, God. I remember that like it was yesterday.
My kids were 2 and 4. I was watching tv in my office making their Halloween costumes and just hoping and praying that they would be found.

After they discovered the car with those babies in it, God. To leave my neighborhood, you have to go down a causeway that splits the lake. I didn't go that way for six months I was so spooked by the whole thing.

I don't think I will ever get that image of those babies out of my mind.

9. This might sound overly harsh, but it sounds like the girl might have done some baragaining
granted, even if she did it is completely wrong of the mother to put her in a position to barter for priviledges. So I am not condoning it in any way. Its just that the whole case is, well, fucking wierd. Don't think we will ever know the whole truth of it.

But yeah, that whole "I don't want to lose him" mentality is something I will never understand. I mean, if you think you gotta go to that measure to keep him, why is he worth having?

19. 13-17 is tricky, legally
on the one hand, I knew plenty of girls when I was 15 who were sexually active, some with older men (older meaning 17 or 18). So someone that age would definately know the details and consequences of sexual activity.

HOWEVER, on the other hand, since they are not completly emotionally mature, they won't be able to weigh in the emotional consequences, and won't think in the long term. Shit, some adults can't do that (like the mother in this case, apparently).

Its tricky with teenagers, I know what its like being there. They know, but they don't know....

Its like I said in another thread, our society doesn't know how to regard teenagers. Sometimes we treat them like fully developed and functional adults (she knew better, she did so willingly) and other times we treat them like children (how could she have known). Its always one of those two, we never (as a society) weigh in the complex combination of adolesence and adulthood. There is no immediate transistion point.

22. My eldest will be 17 next month and she is far
from an emotionally mature adult. Don't get me wrong, she's a wonderful person and I adore her, but she's still young and naive.

She got pulled over by a cop the other day because her inspection sticker on her car was expired. Her/our fault, but she got so flustered she started crying.

She's a very sensitive soul and I'll be interested to hear what she says about this when she gets home.

I think she'll be absolutely repulsed at the thought of a mom encouraging or forcing their child to do that.

31. LOL. Why, thank you. I think that is a compliment.
It's funny. A lot of my friends and I who have been married going on twenty years can't imagine re-entering the dating scene either via premature death or divorce.

Obviously, I know some folks who are doing that, but to me, it's too much work. :hide:

35. LOL, didn't mean for it to sound like it did. What I was saying was,
Your example about the tag on the car clearly illustrates what I was talking about. Immature but mature, caught in between. So they aren't children, but aren't adults. But there are some things you just know.

And I don't know this family involved here, but I would imagine that most 15 year olds would know that exchanging sex for privileges is wrong. This doesn't dismiss the blame on the mother, but it just says that maybe the girl was trying to get something out of this arrangement too.

I doubt if anything was ruined by this incident.

13. yeah, its hard to tell how much the daughter agreed to, and whose ideas the terms were
on one hand, it sounds like the mother and girl worked out a deal and both got what they wanted, but it could be a case of the woman forcing her daughter and then offering these as compenstation.

So we don't know what level of crimes were committed. But decisions like pricing for sexal favors is something that a mother is supposed to keep her daughter from having to make.

18. If she was pressured into this
I'm sure she tried to get something out of it for herself. That doesn't mitigate how horrible this situation was.

If anything, that bargaining shows how disfunctional the family was, and how much damage was already done to this girl from the way she as raised.

Don't blame the child. The adults were clearly in control of that situation. The teen was pushed.

Which I don't agree with by the way, it would stand to reason that a mother willing to do such as this to their own child, could very well have ruined the the girls life long before this point.

sexually qualifies are ruining. I can't imagine someone doing that and having the child remain mentally healthy.

and while this technically doesn't qualify, the damage that it does is beyond horrific.

It's amazing to see what people think is okay to do to their children.

I see a new reality show in this. "Pimp my Daughter".

For what it's worth, the teenager sounds like a nutcase, too.

"Okay mom, I'll sleep with your boyfriend... boy only until you recover from surgery and only then if I can sleep with my own boyfriend right afterwards. Oh, and I wanna dye my hair pink while I'm at it."

"Mimi, you drive a hard bargain. But it's a deal. Now finish your veggies."

I only ask because as PPs have alluded, it does seem odd that ANY 15-year-old would agree to such a "deal." I'm concerned that this child may have a mental illness, such as Downe's, which would put her mental age well below her chronological age.

47. No, I was referring to the mom's boyfriend who got contractual "rights" on the daughter
The family needs therapy more than mom needs jail. Of course mom needs jail time, too, because statuatory rape is still rape. But this seems at the surface to be a nonviolent crime by some poeple who doubtlessly have a LOT of other issues they're dealing with.

I got a sawbuck that says there's drugs involved in here, too.
