Who would be the best pick for VP?
I know it will depend upon who gets the nomination but name someone you think would help the ticket.

For example Clark would bring in National Security clout to the ticket which will be important in the next election. Richardson might help deliver several southwest states plus bring in a lot of energy and foreign relations experience to the ticket. Edwards might help in the south.

1. Wes Clark has been my choice for awhile.
I would love to see a Gore/Clark ticket. In my opinion, they would be unbeatable!

Gore / Clark 2008
Gore / Clark 2012
Clark / ? 2016

The Republicans don't have anyone who can hold a candle to either of these gentlemen.

14. Give us a PROGRESSIVE, NON-CORPORATE female or minority and I'm there.
Issues and qualifications trump race and gender. And both Obama and HRC lose on these fronts. Badly.

19. suuuuuuure.
I don't think they "lose badly" on "those fronts".

I would be happy with any of them. ANY of them. I really really like GORE and CLARK and even Edwards to an extent. Don't really know that much about the rest of them. I won't bash the other candidates. I'll vote for them if they get the nod and do so gladly.

NOTHING would make me happier than to see a DEM in the White House - whoever they are - except maybe to see a Clinton/Obama ticket elected - and yes, because they are not old white males like the ones who have been ruining - er - running - this country for the past 231 years.

This country is way past time to have a woman and/or a minority as President.

THAT, my fellow "DEM" - trumps every other issue in my book.

I'd rather have a qualified candidate with substance who is right on the important issues than make my priority a female or minority president.

Am I the only one here who learned the lesson from Geraldine Ferraro? Weak candidates are weak candidates, even if they're women or minorities. And Obama, Richardson and Clinton are all weak, IMO.

You want a strong minority candidate? The closest you'll get this election cycle is Russ Feingold. But he's not running. So I'll be happy with him as #2 in the Gore administration.

30. I - for one - happen to believe
that Hillary Clinton IS a very strong candidate. Highly capable.

Obama has great potential - he needs more experience - thus the VP slot.

I'm NOT saying a minority "just for minority sake" - that would mean just anybody. That ISN'T the case here.

Sorry, but Feingold - while a great guy - still meets the description of an old white guy in my book.

31. noooooooo -
I don't really think so.

But in order to appeal to the voter who would normally never vote for a woman/minority - and who habitually votes for the old white male - they must out - old white male - them during the campaign or else they would never even get elected.

Listen carefully.

I find it pretty damn odd that the same people who hate Hillary, love Al - imo they're cut pretty much from the same cloth.

33. Same cloth?
A Vice President who is also an academy award winner, best selling novelist, possible Nobel peace prize winner who is sought by other countries to help them solve the climate crisis is considered of the same cloth as Hillary Clinton? I supposed this is a DLC reference? Don't think I don't know Al hasn't always had perfect politics.

If they came from the same cloth, then thank the heavens they were sewn from different patterns. Al has definitely chosen a different path than Hillary.

Edwards, all people, can't help you there. The only D's the south will tolerate are Dixiecrats. If Hillary was a man and Bill hadn't whoooped GHWB's butt then MAYBE she could grab ONE southern state.

Clark could flip Arkansas and Virginia.

Edwards isn't really a Bubba's man, which is why he won't. Bubba would vote for a general, though.

26. There's some interesting and provocative choices out there.
Whether they would be drawn to the veep position may be another story, but how about:

Bill Moyers?

Alexis Herman?

Tom Harkin?

Gary Hart?

Bill Bradley?

Kathleen Sebelius?

28. Mark Warner
If we win Virginia, that's essentially game-set-match. I'm continually amazed that isn't emphasized on DU. With Virginia, we can potentially lose Florida and Ohio and still reach 270 electoral votes. The margin for error completely reverses to our side for a change.

Warner would provide a huge favorite son bump. I'm guessing it would be 4-6 points, even from the VP slot. Normally a VP is worth 3-4 in a high populated state but Virginia has not been represented on a national ticket in so long Warner would receive almost a top of the ticket boost.

Still, I'm not sure it would be enough to win the state if Hillary is the nominee. Edwards/Warner carries Virginia for fun. Obama/Warner would be very competitive, if not a slight favorite. Hillary/Warner might fall a bit short.

1) Unquestionably qualified to assume the office if necessary.
2) Gives us an edge in a swing state (NM).
3) Possibly puts AZ and other SW states in play. Imagine Texas being in play. That would be really hurt the Republicans. Even making the Republicans have to work for Texas would be a big deal.

If he would accept the #2 spot, I think it's almost a no-brainer.
