9. Looks like it will very likely win both too
It seems a shoe-in for Best Documentary, and looking at the list for Best Original Song I see Dreamgirls on there three times which means the voters who are fans of that movie will likely split their votes giving An Inconvenient Truth a huge advantage.

8. Excellent !!
Anything that keeps the buzz going and encourages more people to see this movie has gotta be good news !! :)

It raises awareness about the climate crisis, and at the same time it changes public perceptions of Al Gore.

I only wish they had included real filmed footage of polar bears swimming long distances because there is no ice left for them to walk on. I have seen footage on documentaries made by the BBC that was heartbreaking. Polar bears so tired from swimming, they didn't have enough energy left to hunt.

For me the cartoon polar bear didn't quite have the same impact.

Also there could have been more about where all this carbon dioxide is coming from. More pictures of power stations, airplanes, airports, gas stations, cars, trucks, SUVs - with stats on how much air and road traffic has increased over the past 100 years. How much our oil consumption and overall energy consumption has increased over the past 100 years. How we can reduce the amount of energy we use in our daily lives and in our homes.

Maybe they should make a sequel: "An Undeniable Truth"?

Let's all find ways to show our support for Al Gore!

10. Anyone wonder if Gore might announce he's running during/after the Academy Awards?
Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 11:13 AM by calipendence
If he gets a huge reception there for Inconvenient Truth winning, announcing he's running for president I think would bring the house down! Best Picture award would then seem to be an afterthought!

11. No, Gore has far too much respect for the producers to take away their night
in the spotlight.

12. Perhaps the next day?...
... If he brings down the house with a speech (even if he doesn't announce he's running then.)

Yes, I think you're right though. Not only would the filmmakers not like it but the Academy Awards themselves wouldn't like it since the focus in the world would suddenly shift towards people talking about his running then and not on watching best picture award (especially this year when it seems like it's kind of a dry year otherwise for good films).

But one could still dream for Al to announce amongst big fanfare like that! I think he's waiting for some big event like that to announce to build his momentum heavily if he does announce. Something that the DLC-owned MSM couldn't somehow minimize and distort.

13. No, I don't expect anything until after the new book in May, and maybe later.
