Elizabeth Edwards will be joining hundreds of thousand of people at San Francisco's annual Gay Pride parade that happens this Sunday. She'll be giving a speech at the Alice B. Toklas Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Democratic Club breakfast at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. I'm not sure how open the event is and what sort of crowd capacity the space has.

But this is a major deal.

To have a presidential candidate's spouse have an official appearance at one of the largest Gay Pride events in the world, is paradigm shifting. This makes me proud. This underscores why these events matter to gay people everywhere who seek acceptance and entry into the mainstream while retaining their unique perspective and historical legacy...

Don't get me wrong, Halloween in SF is a BLAST, and The Castro is THE PLACE to be. But your comment makes it sound like the Gay Pride Parade is synonomous with Halloween, and it's not. The history of the Gay Pride Parade and the brave souls who have marched in it is a wonderful piece of American history. There are many countries where you can't march with gay people without getting arrested or harrassed. Hell, there are even cities and towns in America where a gay pride parade could never happen. It's pretty offensive to equate this magnificent event and those who participate in it with Halloween. The fact that you not only make the comparison, but even find it humorous is pretty sad.

next to the Gay Pride Parade. God I had a blast on Castro during Halloween.

I watched a bit of "Kathy Gifford, my life on the D-List" and there was a scene where she was having lunch with Joan Rivers. Joan said, and I swear she said it with a straight-face <no pun intended>, she said to make sure you invite the gays and put them in the front row, I swear it works... That's what she said.

Now, I'd be offended if those comments were directed at my race. Wouldn't you?

of Joan's statement? Care to elaborate? Oh heck, I'll answer my own questions. Kathy was performing at Carnegie Hall for the first time and was a nervous mess. She sought Joan's (and Whoopie G's) advise because both had performed there.

Kathy's shtick is talking about "her" gays and the fact gay men love her. Joan's advise (knowing about Kathy's gays) was to have the gays in front so she could get a friendly vibe, get over her jitters and have a great night.

61. I don't think I, personally, was offended. I just tried to apply it to my situation,

being hispanic, to see if the same rules would apply to gays. If someone had said, go and get the hispanics and put them in the front row, my first thought would be that someone would have to go out and apply their stereo-types to complete strangers to figure out who to extend the invitation to. My guess is, that someone would get their nose bent out of shape. Apparently, however, I don't think the same thing would happen in this situation. So I learned something new.

Personally, I liked the last season and tuned in to see how the current season would play. I was okay with the last season, but the new season does have a different feel to it. It's difficult to watch someone go through what she's going through in the wake of her break-up, and still maintain that carefree zany feel of the first show that captured your interest, because what you like about Kathy and the "D" list concept is how well she keeps it together despite the weird things that happen to her. If she can take risks and manage to laugh off her disappointments, it makes everything look clever and inspiring. I think that we're all plagued with sorrow after we reach a certain age, and the key to holding it together is the ability to create our own little worlds where we don't let every day absurdity stop us from continuing to take risks. I thought she had a gift in that regard, which is what makes the show interesting to watch.
