Over in Universe Gore43, Universal Healthcare came into existence three years ago, crime rates have plunged, and Americans can comfortably travel around the globe as well as they ever did in the Clinton years, carrying their nail files, water bottles, and hand lotion. (I couldn't resist that one.)
In the last two years, both the Omnibus Corporate Tax Reform Act and the Americans Need Alternate Energies Act were signed into law: the first eliminated many offshore tax loopholes, ended outdated tax breaks and other financial benefits accruing to multinationals that encouraged overseas outsourcing by those corporations; also included in the bill were new financial incentives for job creation in the U.S, more federal funding for retraining of middle-aged displaced workers, and a phased reduction in the H-1B program; the second resulted in an expansion of new technology firms focused on alternate energy products/manufacturing, with concomitant increased demand for workers at both the technical and blue collar levels.
American standing abroad has improved following ratification of the Kyoto accords in 2005, and President Gore continues to press for more environmental efforts worldwide.
