NEW YORK -- Michael Moore’s new film “Sicko” opened with a big splash in New York City Friday night, raking in over $23,000 at AMC Lincoln Square according to theatre management and a public relations representative of the movie.
“It’s by far the number one movie at Lincoln Square this weekend,” said Gary Faber, a representative of The Weinstein Company.
The movie took in $23,576 on Friday night at the theatre.
On Saturday afternoon, the theatre, which seats over 700 people, sold around 200 tickets for its 10 a.m. show and 365 for the 1:15 p.m. show.
The 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. shows sold out early Saturday afternoon.
On Friday night, the theatre added an unannounced 11:45 p.m. show after all shows sold out.
Theatre management said another show would be added Saturday night if the ticket-sale trend continued.
