1. Nope. Mine works fine. It could be a phishing scheme, so be careful responding.

2. I can't respond that is the whole thing
I can't receive, send, or save email for upto 48 hours. I have never heard of this. I do belong to some adult themed groups but nothing way out there.

3. You might try sending an email to their help from another addy, and copying...
... the notification you received.

4. I did that a few hours ago and haven't heard back yet
The 'notification' is a blurb across the top (where it tell you you are over quota or other like messages)

6. I lost a whole account there once.
Never could figure out why or get it back. The only thing I could figure is I'd sent out a "mass" email to about 15 people, all of whom were in my address book and would not have tagged me as spam. Dunno. But I lost the account, mail & address book, and never got an answer from Yahoo.

9. I had that happen to mine because I hadn't used it for so long, but I have heard...
Edited on Sun Jun-24-07 11:36 PM by Up2Late
...of comedian who was talking about this happening to him on the radio show "Fresh Air." It happen to him when someone sent him an email joking around about terrorism. It took him a while to get it fixed too.

Here's the link: <http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=9283896>

I can't remember how far into the show it is that he talks about it, but I'm listening now to see if I can find it.

Edit: He tells the story at about 7:45 minutes into the show clip.

Anyway, I figured that the "security update" left my system compromised so I reinstalled YIM from the original binary and ran the usual scans...

11. Someone has tried to crack your password. That's usually what happens.
They had too many failed login attempts, and Yahoo locked your account for 48 hours to protect you. Do you visit yahoo message boards or yahoo games, chatrooms or anything like that?

There's always some cyberpunk trying to hack someone somewhere. I know all about it. I've played with the yahoo booters, account lockers, anything you can think of. Every time yahoo came out with a new patch for the booters, it wasn't but a few hours until new booters were coded and on the internet. Just do a google or yahoo search for "yahoo booters" and/or "yahoo account lockers".

Hope this helps,

Ghost

13. Wow! Never happened to me,but when you get it back...
you might want to try something like YPOPS http://ypopsemail.com/ that lets you download Yahoo mail with any POP3 mail program like Outlook or Eudora. The advantage is that you can have all your important email on your machine when you're offline or if Yahoo goes "poof."

You could do this by paying Yahoo $35 a year, too, but this way is free (and legal, so they say) and as foolproof as anything involving email. I've set Eudora up to fetch mail from my three accounts, including Yahoo, and send through whatever server I'm connected to.
