Congress takes up WTC air quality at hearing
Congressman Jerrold Nadler will be the first ever to question a former EPA head about her agency's response to Ground Zero's air quality after the World Trade Center attack.

Nadler, (D-Manhattan), will hold a congressional hearing Monday, looking into the EPA's possible violations after the attacks. Former EPA Administrator Christine Todd Whitman will testify about the government's monitoring and clean-up of the air quality at Ground Zero.

Two bus loads of New Yorkers will attend the hearing, representing thousands of people who worked and lived near the World Trade Center after the EPA declared the area safe.

"We've been waiting six years for Whitman to testify under oath," said coalition member Robert Gulach. "It's wonderful to have the day come where she'll be at risk of perjury if she goes on lying."

3. The senate did a pretty good job on the epa and several other
neoconsters last week. I hope Nadler and the rest of the house watched that hearing, since C T whitman and other officials lied through their teeth, carefully re-assigning the blame and responsibility.
The "officials" then left, with the senate treating them kindly and deferentially, and the real people showed up, telling the real story, giving the lie to the irresponsible jerks who further exacerbated the damage by their corner cutting and rash, uninformed decisions.

The contrast was dramatic and the shift in attitude by the senators was palpable. The house members should be forewarned.

7. Yes, she did.
She piped up all the usual republiclown excuses - taken out of context, epa can only direct and inform, not order or do.
She did the bit about trying to force all the rescue workers to wear respirators but Ghouliani cut her off at the pass.
Bush wanted to get the financial markets up and running faster, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

She and that chubby little guy, the one who defended the asbestos extractors from the attacks of the dreaded workers with lung cancer-I can't quite remember his name at the moment-did all the usual humma-humma crap. The woman is a disgrace.

The hearing was on either friday or saturday night, so I got to see it a couple of times.

-Connaughton-maybe-was the guy's name. Sumpin' like that.
