In which I kind of concern troll the Catholics

Once again, outrage pimp Bill Donohue reveals way more about his evil mentality than you probably ever wanted to know.
“The degree of corruption in the Delaware Legislature is matched only by the selective indignation its lawmakers have for child rape,” League President Bill Donohue said. “The legislators are owned — lock, stock and barrel — by the teachers unions. Teachers can grope all they want. They can rape little kids. And now they will be protected by making it harder to prosecute them.”Emphasis mine. You’d think he’d at least try not to make it sound like he’s mad that priest are being denied their god-given right to rape and molest children without being held accountable to the law. To make this very clear, Donohue is upset because Delaware lifted the two-year statute of limitations on child molestation cases. Donohue is motivated here by a knee-jerk desire to protect the church from lawsuits if the church covers it up if a priest is caught molesting kids. Of course, he’s got to play it off like he’s more worried that the school system is getting away with something, but seriously, this phrasing makes it all too clear that this is about making sure that if anyone gets away with anything, it should be the church.
But this time, Donohue’s ruthlessness has gone too far for even the official church. The Catholic Diocese of Wilmington has distanced itself from the Catholic League, due to the extreme distastefulness of this press release and Donohue’s willingness to play politics on an issue like child molestation. Good for them, but it does point to something disturbing about the entire Catholic League’s operations. As Paperwight notes, that the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington was willing to distance themselves this time shows that this has been an option for the church for a long time, an option that they haven’t been taking.
Donohue is outraged that the Catholic Church (which has a history of deliberately hiding child sexual abuse by priests) is no longer getting a free pass relative to the state. First, is this really any of Donohue’s business? Seems like a tacit admission that the Church has a problem to me. Second, isn’t the Church supposed to be a moral examplar, protect all the little children and so forth? Aim high, Bill.More:
