Mexican Government Vs. Second Amendment
With our President and our Congress, Mexico will probably win this one, too.

Nature abhors a vacuum. When the U.S. government ceased to care about controlling the U.S.-Mexican border, the region descended into anarchy.

We now have illegal aliens and drugs moving north and Mexican drug smugglers even setting up listening and observation posts north of the border. There is an intrinsic relation between drug and alien smuggling, with drug smugglers using illegal aliens, sometimes as drug runners, sometimes as decoys.

But open borders work both ways. Recently, the Mexican government has been getting upset because of south-bound smuggling: of guns. Its preferred solution: the U.S. should abolish the right to keep and bear arms.

Don’t laugh—if the Bush-backed drive to marry Mexico prevails, gun control will happen.

2. DU might not be the best place to post "opinion pieces" from such a FReeprCrap website.
Just sayin'.

4. My mistake. No insult intended.
I had never heard of the site before. It is an interesting thought, though.

I had done a google to follow up on a CNN item which said that Mexico was suspending their Federal officers because of corruption. This was the only item listed by google that fitted the subject.

12. Well, in light of the fact that you've also started a thread to praise PAT BUCHANON...

3. If you're a rich visitor to Mexico, there will probably be...

a provision in the law for your bodyguards to be armed. All other visitors can still count on the effectiveness of Mexico police to ensure the safety of American tourists. You DO feel safe in Mexico, right? You can defend yourself, even if the Banditos are armed. They probably still wouldn't be much of a threat to the usually taller, bigger Americans who visit there. Right?

11. You made a statement regarding the way things work in Mexico
I just want to know whether you're speaking from knowledge of the facts or not.

You made an assertion. I'm just asking for the facts that support it.

13. I'm asking you what you want clarified. Can you tell me?

Did I say something that you disagree with? If so, what is it that you disagree with. Go ahead and give it a shot.

14. Very simple,
you made an assertion (you can read your own post) regarding "a provision in the law for your bodyguards to be armed".

If you know for a fact that this the way things work in Mexico, I'm just asking that you substantiate that statement with factual information.

17. Is this what you're so upset about?

there will probably be...
a provision in the law for your bodyguards to be armed.

Are you telling me that Mexican politicians are ignorant of the art of compromising to get legislation passed?

8. I know a guy that
spent five years of hell in a Mexican prison w/o a trial or any legal representation because someone unbeknown to him had hidden a gun in an airplane that he rented and flew into Mexico.

10. This has the ring of truth,
The biggest difference between Mexican and US law, is that the US adheres to common law, while Mexico follows Napoleonic law. What is the difference? Innocent until proven guilty, versus guilty until proven innocent.

That the guy survived five years in a Mexican prison is amazing. My father had a friend who died in prison for stealing a goat. Stealing livestock is still considered a major crime in Mexico.

6. LP/OPs north of the border...I can attest to those, first hand
On one of my recons, I came across an LP/OP east of Sasabe in the middle of freaking nowhere that had been abandoned but stocked for eventual reoccupation. How did I know that? Under a rock was a pretty good sized stack of Mexican porn.

The LP/OPs around Menagers, Quitobaquito, and Lukeville are heavily fortified and, when occupied, heavily armed. These folks have satellite phones, state of the art thermal and IR optics, and heavy firepower.

15. Gee
I live in a border state and one of the only minority/majority states...Texas. I have lots of illegal friends and I haven't witnessed this anarchy yet. Where oh where is it.

...and if you stopped the drug flow, where would I get my weed?

Wow, add this to your Pat Buchanan post and gee....just striking big with the progressive posts...NOT.

21. This is as dumb as Mayor Daley or Bloomberg being surprised...
about the fact that a lot of guns used in crime come from out-of-state.

Mexico, Canada, New York (including NYC) and Chicago have made it both legally and socially difficult to legally purchase and own guns in their respective territories. But demand is still there. So the market shifts. Responds.

And they have the nerve to be surprised by it.

It's like they decided to put a $10-per-gallon tax on gasoline, then whine and bitch and moan about people buying their gasoline in neighboring states.
