Why Not Impeach Bush? Answer President Dick Cheney. By: Eugene Robinson
Cheney the Survivor

Posted on Jun 26, 2007
By Eugene Robinson

WASHINGTON—I’m often asked why, given my lower-than-low opinion of this administration, I don’t at least raise the subject of whether George W. Bush should be impeached. I answer with three scary words that tend to end the discussion: President Dick Cheney.

Then again, Cheney would probably think of moving into the Oval Office as a demotion. The president, at least, has some accountability to public opinion—if he’s going to defy it, he has to offer some explanation. The president has to hold an occasional news conference, tolerate meetings with his opponents on Capitol Hill and endure lectures from world leaders who question his policies. Cheney can just blow it all off.

Cheney will be remembered not just as the first sitting vice president since Aaron Burr to shoot someone, but also as the first vice president in history clever and determined enough to turn what is usually a ceremonial office into a center of vast independent power.

..............

The vice president whose Secret Service code name is “Angler” really does know all the angles. And above all, he knows how to survive. His one-time mentor Donald Rumsfeld is gone, his one-time top aide Scooter Libby is on his way to jail, yet Cheney—defiantly, disastrously, unbelievably—remains. It will take years to uncover and undo all the damage he has wrought.

1. President Dick Cheney--you don't see those screaming for Bush's impeachment mention that.
Aside from the fact that the votes are nowhere close to being there to convict in the Senate. Of course, their answer is that somehow those votes will magically appear and then it will be on to impeaching and convicting Cheney. Even under this incredibly unlikely scenario how long would President Cheney be in office? Anybody take a look at the calendar lately and see how short time is getting to practically do anything? Everyday is one day closer to the end for Bushco, impeachment or not.

15. Yes, I think he will.
It would be easy to fall into the sky if falling or will fall frame of mind reminiscent of the Y2K hysteria (So much here reminds me of that time--ITEOTWAWKI. Peak oil doom and gloom is much the same without a specific time). Maybe it's a case of expecting the worse and being pleasantly surprised when something better happens. Bushco, too, shall pass, life will go on and the Republic will survive. Like a grand tree it will be initially still damaged, in time it will scar over showing evidence of the old wound, but will continue to grow and be strong and after many years there will be some who will wonder what ever happened to it to leave that mark.

14. Mention it all the time -- point out that We HAVE "President Cheney"
We also make the case that impeaching Bush without Cheney (or Cheney without Bush) can't be. They are joined at the hip. Partners in crime.

And, we make the case that impeachment, win or lose, is a moral imperative AND will give the Democratic Party an unprecedented boost.

There is nothing more reprehensible than surrendering to fascists without a fight.

But you've heard, and ignored, these arguments, and http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=1169359&mesg_id=1170829">the many other factual and logical arguments for impeachment, and against your claims.

Like the bushcheney steamroller, you've made it clear that there will be no stopping you from repeating your baseless beliefs.

2. This Is Just Another Beltway False Meme
Even Robinson identifies it as a means to "end the discussion." What it really is is a means to dismiss even considering the possiblity rationally.

This is how GroupThink works.

Here a sampling of the Impeachophobes' False Memes.

5. LOL He gives a good reason for impeaching Bush even while

he attempts to scare people with Cheney.

"The president, at least, has some accountability to public opinion—if he’s going to defy it, he has to offer some explanation. The president has to hold an occasional news conference, tolerate meetings with his opponents on Capitol Hill and endure lectures from world leaders who question his policies."

A little sunshine on Cheney. If nothing else it would annoy the piss out of Cheney.

Be afraid of Cheney! ranks right up there with terra!terra!terra!

Be afraid to act! Be afraid to question! Just be afraid!

Cheney wants people to fear him - fear keeps people at bay and off his back. I'd wager the piece of shit gets a good laugh out of it. He probably even jokes about people fearing him. If fear works to keep people away - Cheney is all for it. Since he likes to be left alone to do what he wants.

Some people oblige Cheney. Some people don't.

10. Cheney being in that limelight will show up him and the repukes
for what they are.

It will bring all of his blatant attempts to put himself above the law right out there. Even the M$M won't get to ignore it.

But impeaching them both is necessary. Impeaching Cheney only lets Bush pick someone else for the job. As we see with Ashcroft/Gonzalez and various other such appointments, the replacement is usually even worse. Though where * would find someone like that, who knows, but there's probably someone under some rock somewhere.

16. Impeachment of Cheney was put on the table
by DK. It has been "tabled" so as to keep it off the table. Sure would like to know why some want him to remain.
