It's Time To Take Your Republican Friends For A Walk Down Memory Lane!
Edited on Tue Jun-26-07 05:52 PM by David Zephyr
You know, I've always marveled at how Gerald Ford somehow escaped from being called a "weakling" and a "communist appeaser" when he pulled our troops out of the losing military proposition America faced in Vietnam. The silence, after our defeat, from Republicans back then in the 1970's was deafening. These were, after all, the very same Republicans who had sneered and jeered at those of us who had opposed that war all along.

Still, the howls and taunts of "support the troops" and "better red than dead" by the right wing back then suddenly fell silent once Ford had quietly ended the war. Their great fear-mongering about a "domino theory" of communism immediately was muted.

And yet, all Jerry Ford did was what the courageous Senator George McGovern, a combat veteran from World War II, had called for back in 1972 --- bringing the soldiers home. But Ford never was called the hateful names that McGovern suffered, and yet Ford did exactly what McGovern had called for.

There's a very important lesson here, folks: Do let this happen again.

When George W. Bush begins, in defeat, to pull our troops out of Iraq (as he surely will) and the inevitable bloodbath and civil war comes, we must remind Bush and his supporters of all the shitty falsehoods they used to wage his war and to "stay the course" for almost the entire length of his failed presidency.

Don't let the sons of a bitches get away without us reminding them about all of their assertions!

Can't you still hear it ringing in your ears?

"We're fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here."

"If we leave Iraq, they will follow us home."

"Iraq is the central front in the 'war on terror'.

Are you still smarting from those challenges to your patriotism and to your love of your country? Well, do something about it! Don't get mad, get even!

So whenever Republicans like Dick Lugar and George Voinovich now grasp for the lifeboats from off Bush's Titanic in Iraq, they need to be reminded of all the shit they hurled at another veteran, John Murtha, when he called for redeploying out of Iraq.

Remind these slimy and murderous Republican bastards of their words, as they cowardly try to distance themselves from their earlier gung-ho support of the war.

And have some fun while you are at it...all at their expense:

Ask your fellow Republicans why, when Bush begins pulling out the troops, the following:

1.) Why aren't you Republicans "staying the course"?

2.) Why are you Republicans abandoning the "central front on terror"?

3.) Why are you Republicans no longer "supporting the troops"?

4.) Why are you Republicans inviting the terrorists to follow us home by leaving the war they championed?

5.) Why do you Republicans now stop "fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here?

6.) Why in the hell are you Republicans "cutting and running"?

Yeah! Next time you see one of your Republican "friends" who taunted you with this same bullshit for years, why not throw it all back in their faces and remind them that if Republicans had only done what Democrats had suggested long ago, thousands of American troops would still be alive today.

Remind them! Every damned chance you can! Make them eat their words because the blood is on their hands!

Yeah, take your Republican friends by the arm for a nice little stroll down Memory Lane, won't you? ;-)

3. You noticed it is a rant? Thanks.
Dick Lugar George Voinovich are being championed by the corporate media as being "brave" while they savaged John Murtha for saying it when it mattered. Thanks!

5. thanks! another thread has a great quote from Lugar, IIRC, warning
us not to pull out, how dangerous it would be to leave in the midst of a civil war.

quoting them to reveal their hypocrisy would work well, if the likes of Russert would do it, but it only works against Dems. M$M have a wonderfully selective amnesia when it comes to pug depredations, and an inversely photographic memory when it comes dem missteps

funny how that works, isn't it?

8. I'd love to see the quote.
The most galling thing is that these Republican murderers are now getting credit for being brave and standing up against the war. Alice is truly in Wonderland.
